Culture and religion debate.

I witnessed the other day a topic on here, where there was a debate about Somali culture and how it has been eroded by "Arab culture"; essentially, the interference of Islam in our culture. I was extremely baffled by those comments, I wondered, have the Somali shops been filled with gyros and falaafals? Have Somali women started entertaining themselves with belly dances? How has the Somali culture been eroded by Arab culture. I have yet to see any justification for such comments.Just because something has been practiced for so long, does not make it right. It was done out of ignorance, just like Islam challenged the Bedouin culture, it will challenge every culture, until all that is un-Islamic will be eradicated. There is nothing wrong with dhaanto, as long as there is a separation between women and men, because that is un-Islamic. There is nothing wrong with poetry so long as the theme is not un-Islamic, same with songs, so long as there are no instruments and the song is not foul in language. I fail to understand why such things as a piece of cloth, or a plate of rice, is so important to certain individuals when there is no care for that in the afterlife? Like the brother here said, "and no one will care the kind of food your mother use to make, the angel of death does not discriminate."

The Jilbaab that Somali women were is not even Arab, it is a design of Somali women. You will not see it being worn by other people. The Dirac, Macaawis, Al-hindi, all are rooted in Indo-Asian culture, no one ever says anything about Somali culture being eroded by Indo-Asian culture. I want to understand, how leaving out certain things forbidden by Islam in our daily life, becomes the adoption of Arab culture?

Bro, those Islamphobes are hiding behind culture. They are too afraid to express their contempt for Islam. Funny just as you mentioned they dont have a problem when somalis adopt Indo-asian culture, but are up in arms at the mention of Arabs.

Culture evolves, Somali tea came from Indian culture, same with certain aspects of traditional clothing and so on. Those cultures have enriched Somali culture. But apart from language, I dont see what positive impact Arab culture has had on Somali culture

The way they practice our religion has seeped into our country, infected us, caused more fitna on top of the secular differences that fuelled the war
Yes to eradicating the evil aspects of Somali culture (FGM etc), no to importing the evil aspects of Arab culture

Why do people assume following Islam is following the Arabs

It's just a cover to attack Islam

Is there a Arab way of following Islam and a Somali way?

What do u mean practice? Praying, fasting, paying zakat? Things like that? Yes there is a correct way to do that, other ways are flawwed.
If you are not talking about that, then I'm not sure of what u mean practicing
