I am looking for Somali-English dictionary

Hi there,

If you know where I can purchase an excellent Somali-English dictionary, kindly provide a link for me? I have already googled and found few but I am not sure how good these dictionaries are so please only respond if you already have the dictionary (if any) that you are recommending. I am only interested in paper books not online/web dictionaries, thank you.

I found one bought it from Dunwoody Press, Kensigton, MD; got it for $79.

I have two, one bigger than the other and latest, bought it at the local somali mall on impulse. I know somali very well, but still, felt good to have the dic around. Plus I spend something if I walk into a bookstore, don't know whetehr it is bad habit or not but I buy books I know I won't be using often or won't be reading for fun. I will check if the one you bought is the same as the one I have.

btw, $20 bucks waaye kan wayn, Don't remember how much I paid for the smaller one, had been years, prolly ten bucks or less. I wanna know what the one you paid 79 for looks like. Post a picture please once you get PS: It is worth it, am not questioning the price, just surprised me how expensive you paid.

Navy, sorry, just saw your message after I posted. I would have to see yours to judge and make the comparison. PS: Google Somali dictionary, then hit "Images" at the upper left corner, follow the links that post the pics of the dictionaries I bought(in the pics here). I bought both from Local Somali malls. The smaller one at the Hilib Halal, the bigger one at Somali Mall in Minneapolis.


Waa ka xumahay you paid that much, I am a sucker for books even though my knowledge is not as extensive as my love of books and would have paid as much, so I wouldn't grind you for paying that much, it shows how high you value knowledge. But still, I could have helped the sister if she asked before she bought

My Somali is not that strong, so if I hear/read a Somali word i do not know, I would love to find its meaning and translation, that is why I was looking for the Somali-English.

i think i would be very intresting and useful if there was a somali - somali dictionery, i have never seen/heard of one. Have you?

No, I haven't seen one but it does not mean it does not exist, search for it and if you find one post it here

That makes sense. For me, my interest is focused on the english science vocabulary compared to their equivalent Somali words.

Tamar = Energy
Pressure = Cadaadis
Angle = Xagal


And so on. knowing the English words helps me find the Somali equivalent faster, hence, English-Somali dic is most useful to me.
