Niya... I read the article yesterday, absolutely useless. U might as well just read the title and move on. Basically it states we, Human have 1 to 4 % Neanderthals Genes, but they offer no proof or elaborate more. And most of the studies were done to Europeans and asians. They have not done any studies to Africans, although in the article they promise to embark on them. They tip toed around being politically correct and all,despearatelty trying to say africans will have like 40% gene of the Neanderthals.(Not Somalis by the way. ) In the end --it was a rather a NOT interesting article.

Neanderthalers were just archaic Hominids nothing special about that, they were able to interbreed with Sapiens just like Dogs and Wolves are able to, it is not surprising that Eurasians carry such genes more compared to Africans.

No Neanderthalers were found in Sub-Saharan Africa..

So if they do find some genes in Africans with Neanderthaler origins it is probably from Eurasian admixture

I would say no more than 0.5% to 1% in Africans..

I'm sceptical of these sorts of things, there is always some academic trying to prove something and making the data fit his hypothesis rather than the other way around.

There were no Neanderthals in Africa, though there were a few in Syria, but if there are "Neanderthal" genes in humans it is because we share the same ancestors. It's not like they were another species they were our cousins.

James, i beg your pardon? Perhaps Neanderthal are just mere mammals. Like the apes. I am sure there are humans with a small percentage of neanderthal genes due ape connection.

This is a groundbreaking discovery, it confirms the theory of different human species currently living side by side with some degree interbreeding.
The biggest question is why is it that the hybrides of the current human species are not sterile, as its the case in animaldom?

I think I have some elements of response...that is replacing the concept of sterile, by the one of "statistically more sterile", meaning a hybride is
likely more sterile than a normal mono-species human being
This theory is very easy to confirm, it only needs some statistical measures on the hybride human species.

Bareento not sure what you were trying to say but the definition of a species is a group of animals that are able to interbreed and produce fertile offsprings. So what this suggests is that neaderthals were the same species as homo sapiens.
