Scientists to test ultrasound as a male contraceptive sperm
The ultrasound waves stop sperm production in the testes
Scientists are beginning tests to see if ultrasound can be used as a reversible contraceptive for men.
Based on early work, University of North Carolina experts believe a blast of ultrasound to the testes can safely stop sperm production for six months.
With a grant of $100,000 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation they will push ahead with more clinical trials.
The researchers ultimately hope it could offer a new birth control option to couples throughout the world.
Lead researcher Dr James Tsuruta said: "We think this could provide men with up to six months of reliable, low-cost, non-hormonal contraception from a single round of treatment.
"Our long-term goal is to use ultrasound from therapeutic instruments that are commonly found in sports medicine or physical therapy clinics as an inexpensive, long-term, reversible male contraceptive suitable for use in developing to first world countries."
Once the testis has stopped producing sperm and all "sperm reserves" have been depleted, explain the researchers, the man will be temporarily infertile.
Their Grand Challenges Exploration Grant project aims at fine-tuning this technique for maximum effect and safety.

^^ said nothing about stopping testosterone production...
"reversible male contraceptive suitable for use in developing to first world countries."
Next step is involuntary sterilization.... and population control...

Men rejoice???
what are you that desparate for birth controL? birth control is women's problem not mens, and no man wants his testicles hit with waves of radiation waves to destroy his sperm, that is gay man!
I thought you were talking about a cure of baldness or something when you said "men rejoice", not infertility.

PO How would they stop sperm production without messing about with the hormones involved? You can't just freeze the cells, they block something that shouldn't be blocked hence the imbalance. Shared responsibility

Ultra sound is just high frequency sound waves, which they are using a very concentrated precise blast at the balls

, they don't say anything about any hormonal change, and it stopping testosterone creation... your just reading to much into it and letting your imagination get a hold of you bv

Okay when the ultrasound waves hit the testicles what happens then? How does that result in stoping sperm production? What about LH, FSH and testosterone, the brain would still initiate their production and they are the ones which are in the end responsible for sperm so something has to give

And it's not imagination it's biology

Why would any guy take any blast, shot, sound, or impact at their precious precious ....
BV stop just stop your getting ahead of your self again. I haven't a clue about how this stops sperm production, or what effects it has. I'm sure this has risks, but I cannot say there are hormonal risks, neither can you. So I don't see how you can jump to the conclusion that men will have hormonal imbalance. YOU FAIL BIOLOGY!!!

BlackVelvet,
It is great that men will be able to have more control their reproductive tools. Gone will be:
1. The Fake pregnancies to salvage a broken relationships/marriages
2. The Unwanted pregnancies

PO you're crap does hormonal imbalance make you picture a crying woman?

that's why you block the entire argument which by the way makes complete sense, you can't have gametes without hormones and you cannot not have them without doing something to those hormones. Ciyaal foqal ciyaal
AW there are times when birth control is necesseary for a couple lakin you probably just see it as carefree zina. Remember though it wont stop you from getting HIV, check yourself before you wreck yourself

ALL I SAID WAS I DON'T KNOW AND YOUR READING TO MUCH INTO IT!!!

Oh my goodness, it's called inference what is there to imagine? You know what you don't need an ultrasound to cause hormonal imbalance you seem to have gotten there all on your own
