While I'm obviously not going to lose any sleep over the actual hacking of that blasphemous page, I can't help but feel it's fundamentally contradictory to unIslamically defend the Prophet SAW (and, by extension, Islam) since I don't think hacking someone else's website is allowed in Islam :|

Compare hacking a webpage to the following hadeeth:

Abu Dawood narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas that a blind man had a freed concubine (umm walad) who used to insult the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and say bad things about him. He told her not to do that but she did not stop, and he rebuked her but she did not heed him. One night, when she started to say bad things about the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and insult him, he took a short sword or dagger, put it on her belly and pressed it and killed her. The following morning that was mentioned to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). He called the people together and said, “I adjure by Allah the man who has done this action and I adjure him by my right over him that he should stand up.” The blind man stood up and said, “O Messenger of Allaah, I am the one who did it; she used to insult you and say bad things about you. I forbade her, but she did not stop, and I rebuked her, but she did not give up her habit. I have two sons like pearls from her, and she was kind to me. Last night she began to insult you and say bad things about you. So I took a dagger, put it on her belly and pressed it till I killed her.” Thereupon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Bear witness, there is no blood money due for her.”

Ok, but what about the famous story from the Siira of the Prophet SAW regarding the old woman who used to anticipate when the Prophet SAW would be walking by her home, and routinely throw dirt on him and scatter his path with thorns. One day, during his usual time, he walked by her house and didn't find any thorns in his path and didn't see the lady there to make his day difficult. So he went to her home, knocked on her door and asked permission to see her. When it was granted to him, he approached her and she asked him if he was there to seek vengeance against her in her time of weakness and vulnerability. Rasuulullah SAW responded in the negative, and stated that rather, he was there to visit her and tend to her needs as he'd been commanded to do as a Muslim. Upon seeing his forbearance and his desire to assist her in spite of how she made it her business to torment him, she took the Shahaada and become a devout Muslimah.

I'm sure you're also aware of how the pagan mushrikiin used to spill animal guts on the Prophet SAW while he was praying, and he never retaliated against them. As for the story you mentioned, the Saxaabi RA had already killed the woman, so it could be that the Prophet SAW waived the necessity of the Diya to be paid because saxaabiga muusan gardareysanin naagta. Notice the Hadith doesn't say he either condemned his actions or commended him on them.

I don't understand what purpose it serves to hack the FB page. Will that stop the attacks on the Prophet SAW? No. Will it paint Islam in a positive light to show "Muslim hackers" breaking cyber laws? No. Will it preserve the honour of the Prophet SAW to show him being defended by vigilantes who, instead of taking a page out his Sunnah in the way he dealt with the taunts and insults leveled at him, decide to take matters into their own hands and break laws? No. In fact, it'll just embolden them and make them realize it's getting under our skin, and find ways to do it on a wider scale on a grander stage (which is how the whole "Draw Muhammad Day" came about, as a direct result of the threat by a radical Muslim group to attack Comedy Central if they broadcasted an episode of South Park depicting his image). Let's not allow our passion, zeal and love for the Prophet SAW to cloud our judgement and cause us to behave irrationally. There are other legal avenues in place that we can exhaust..instead of burning flags, threatening beheadings, and basically giving the enemies of Islam ammunition to use against us on the evening news and validating their arguments that Islam is not a religion of peace.

First off, I'm not encouraging anyone to do anything or saying what should be done and what not. I'm only bringing out the stance of the real salaf on this issue for educational purposes, because claiming that some act is Islamic or unIslamic is a big thing.

The story you mentioned is indeed very famous, but there are doubts concerning its authenticity. For what I have read, is that the origin of this story is unknown. There's no hadeeth concerning it. So if you have some information please post it. There's another famous similar story about jewish neigbor who every day threw rubbish in front of Prophet's house and then one day he didn't. So when Prophet saws noticed this he went to see what's wrong and found out that the son of the jewish man was sick and dying. So Prophet saws asked him to became muslim and the boy looked at his father and father said obey abul qasim and the boy made shahada.

It's a nice story, but the real story goes like this: It was narrated that Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: There was a Jewish boy who used to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and he fell sick. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to visit him. He sat by his head and said, “Become Muslim.” (The boy) looked at his father who was with him, and he (the father) said, “Obey Abu’l-Qaasim (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).” So he became Muslim, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went out, saying, “Praise be to Allaah Who has saved him from the Fire” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1290).

About mushrikiin of Makka who threw animal guts and disturbed Prophet saws anyway they could, then this happened early in Islam when sharica wasn't complete and Muslims were only few in numbers. That time Muslims couldn't retaliate and Prophet saws ordered his followers to be patient. When they moved to Medina and were sufficient in number Allah ordered Muslims to fight and this is well known. AFTER that time there didn't happen anymore that Muslims would put themselves under humiliation of nonbelievers. Islam is the religion of cizz and sharaf and we are not allowed to let people to disgrace us willingly. Then what about the honor of Prophet saws, who should be more dear to us than our families and even ourselves, if we are believers, like the hadith says?

The hadith I quoted isn’t the only one of similar kind, but there are several of them. For example the assassination of Kacb bin Ashraf, who was a jewish poet in Medina. He wrote poems insulting Prophet saws and Muslims, and Prophet saws sent Muhammad bin Maslama to assassinate him. And this happened while Muslims had a peace treaty with jews. Sheikhul Islam ibn Taymiya even wrote a book about the subject of insulting the Prophet saws. In this book (al sarim al maslul cala shatim al rasul or the drawn sword against the one who insults the messenger) he commented the killing of Kacb bin Ashraf by saying:

وذلك يدل على أن أذَى الله ورسوله عِلة لنَدْب المسلمين إلى قتل مَن يفعل ذلك من المعاهَدِين، وهذا دليل ظاهر على انتقاض عهده بأذى الله ورسوله، والسبُّ من أذى الله ورسولهِ باتفاق المسلمين، بل هو أخص أنواع الأذى

This proves that harming Allah and His messenger is a reason to encourage Muslims to kill whoever does this from the people even if they have contract with the Muslims (mucaahidiin) and this is clear proof that contract is broken by harming Allah and His messenger. And insulting is from the harming Allah and His messenger by the agreement of Muslims, rather it’s most specific form of harming

Prophet saws also ordered assassination of a poet called Abu Raafic because of the same reason. When Makka was opened, Prophet saws promised peace and amnesty for all the people, except few individuals whom he ordered to be killed even if they are holding the cloth of Kacba. Those included some women who used to sing insulting songs about Prophet saws. There are more similar ahadith about the subject, just giving a few keywords to use for more serious examination of the subject.

Ibn Taymiya gave in his aforementioned book a xukm sharci for this issue:

إن من سب النَّبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من مسلم أو كافر فانه يجب قتله و هذا مذهب عامة أهل العلم

Who insults the Prophet saws from Muslims or kuffar then it’s compulsory to kill him and this is the madhab of general people of knowledge (culama)

Ibn Mundir (famous compiler of the issues where there is a scholarly consensus or ijmaac) said:

أجمع عوام أهل العلم على أن حدَّ مَن سب النَّبي صلى الله عليه وسلم القتل

General people of knowledge (culama) came together (ajmaca) that the punishment of the one who insults the Prophet saws is killing

It's a whole different thing if you discuss the hacking from the point of practical benefit and will it stop the act, but to say that hacking a page where Prophet saws is insulted is an unIslamic act…..c’mon man :!:

JazaakAllahu Khayr sxb. From my vantage point, it struck me as bizarre to try to defend the honour of the Prophet SAW from these reprehensible attacks upon his person by hacking their website which they use as a platform to perpetuate that filth...since hacking a website is unIslamic to begin with (generally speaking), lakiin I guess I was wrong and under the circumstances it was acceptable based on the evidence you provided. Allah SWT Knows best.

As for the story about the old woman, I'm not sure if the Siira of the Prophet SAW is entirely supported through Hadith, but rather passed down through generations of his pious followers. The Sealed Nectar (Raxiiq Al-Makhtuum), the most widely agreed upon biography of the Prophet SAW, doesn't source all the info but rather lists the Siira as a story, and only documents major incidents. Nevertheless, I can't ascertain the exact origins of the story about the old women myself, so I'll take that story back in case it's false.

You too sxb. I'm not sure about the story, I just remember reading something like that, wallahu aclam.

Scholars used much lower standards when writing siira, than in other Islamic sciences and added also weak narrations that they heard. For example when talking about how was the society of arabs before Islam or how were the father and forefathers of Prophet saws, then these narrations would be from non-muslims and in standards of hadith science they wouldn't be taken. This is the reason why we can't take fiqh or caqiida rulings from the siira alone, unless we have authentic evidence backing it up from reliable sources.
