Somali gov’t condemns Warlord and german security

Mogadishu, Somalia (APA) -The Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Somalia on Wednesday condemned the bid by the German-based military security firm Asgaard to send mercenaries to the Horn of African country to fight for a Somali warlord.
The Somali government said in a statement issued here Wednesday that the German security company violated the existence of the Somali government and the country’s sovereignty when it signed such an agreement with a warlord.
“There is only one legitimate and internationally recognized Somali government led by President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed which has the right to sign agreements with a foreign country or company,” the statement from Somali presidential palace said.
“The notion that a Germany firm is signing military cooperation with a bogus “president” by the name or Abdinur Darman is a laughable matter. Darman is a con artist, not Somali president,” the statement said.
The statement said that the German authorities, Interpol and Somalia’s international partners will be fully notified about this individual’s illicit activities and he should and will be prosecuted for his subversive crimes.
“Reputable firms should not be signing counterfeit agreements, on behalf of Somalia, with con artists,” the Somali presidential statement added.

On Tuesday some opposition law makers in Germany have condemned the move by Asgaard security group, describing it as a clear violation against the UN arms sanctions on Somalia that was imposed in 1992 in a bid to diminish the long-running civil war in the country.
Security analysts in Somalia believe that the German mercenaries’ work in Somalia can only exacerbate the already deteriorating security situation in Somalia which lacked a functioning central government for two decades.
The matter that a German security firm will send 100 ex-soldiers to Somalia as kind of its agreement with Abdi Nur Darman has come to light this week. Darman, who has been an opposition leader in Somalia, has been claiming Somalia’s presidency since 2003.
