African Soccer Fans and Their Colonial Connections

Post by guhad122 »

One would think that natives of a land would have no love for their former colonizers but when it comes to soccer, the opposite is true. I came across this Kenyan forum about this same issue.
http://www.mashada.com/forums/kenya/122 ... hetic.html

In Somalia, the North are British soccer fans where the Southern Somalis have mad love for the Azzuri. People like Shirib would go crazy if you tell them Italian soccer sucks.
Djiboutians support the French team
Kenyans are big time British soccer fans
Angola is known to like the portuguese soccer

I would love to read some literature on this. After all, the colonizers accomplished more than taking natural resources from Africa. The Africans still love them

Anybody has any links on a good academia literature on these connections? Why would a Kenyan whose grandfather was colonized by the British would came to the conclusion that the British team is the best team in the worldcup arena. Amazing.

Plus they think they are civilized when they mention these city names. f-king retards. Odayaal waa wayn oo waxaad arkaysaa sunday mornings meel ku qaylinaaya kanaa fiican iyo kanaa fiican. I am like "You folks need to get a life"(of course I never say that to them). I play soccer and love it, have the ball in the car along with my soccer shoes to play anytime I want, but I don't watch it on TV and follow Euro games. World cup is the exception and I don't live in Eorupe anyway where soccer is an obsession. At the barber shop, they argue a lot about soccer with passion. It gets personal for them. Same with the NBA, kuwo hadda baadiyaha soomaaliya ka yimid yaa ku leh newska naga baddal waxaa ciyaaraaya lebron ee noo saar, lebronkiina dhakada ka wasa
