But those are all Western/middle eastern empires.

Reality speaking, the various Chinese dynasties far outshine those Western empires when it comes to greatness and discovery, but they only influenced east Asia.

Its not just about size. There were a lot of empires bigger than Rome but Rome had a lot of influence. The British had size and influence, that's what puts them way ahead of the others.

It depends what you mean by great,if you mean impact on humanity in a good way no doubt it was the Islamic Empire.If you mean in terms of land then contrary to populer believe it's not the British Empe but the Mongol Empire.The British Empire had the most widespread but the Mongols had the most land
