Just checked the very latest per capitas according to price indexes, here are some African countries. I thought it was interesting.
Egypt - $1,990
Algeria - $4,845
Angola - $4.713
Somalia - $139
Eritrea - $335
Ethiopia -$316
Sudan - $1,352
Libya - $14,802 (first world country)
South Africa - $5,678
Djibouti - $1,209
Kenya - $783
I always wondered why Kenya had such a shitty per capita GDP. They have the most open economy in the region as well as a major and well known seaport at Mombasa.
Kenya's GDP sucks because Kenya basically kicked all the subsistence farmers off their land and started growing coffee, which has made a bunch of people really rich but has left millions of people unemployed.
Somalia's is so low because the war has devastated every sector of the old Somali economy.
I have been to Kenya twice. Kenya (though looks very developed for Africa) is an unequal society due to one of the most pronounced corruptions on Earth (look to Joe Biden's recent lecture there reiterating Obama's position who is actually second generation Kenyan in America) and Somalia is really low cuz it deserves to be that way.
Okay I'm just posting a question on Kenya, not Somalia. This is actually the most well done list to date, often some group makes up the numbers for most states and passes it off as fact, usually they put Somalia and half of Africa at the same range $600-800 but this time they put more time in it and it shows that Somalia is indeed far behind any country that has a government and infrastructure. The khat babies here who argue that anarchy has somehow moved the country forward will be silenced.
Other strange oddities are Sudan, whose oil profits are pushing the country past its problems, at least on paper. Also the Republic of Congo (not the former Zaire) is at like $2,700 per capita, I didn't know they had that strong an economy. And fukking hell, Egypt is doing terrible WTF.
Not going to comment on anarchy prone Somalia because there is no need. As for Kenya,....has high tourism, relatively safe, very well kept downtown, but truly is an unequal society due to some of the most pronounced corruption on earth. When I overstayed my visa, all my dad did was pay a Garre government liaison to bribe a government minister to stamp me for another 3 months. Again, I ask you to watch Joe Biden's recent Q and A with Kenyans on the WhiteHouse channel on Youtube to see how Obama administration feels about the rampant corruption in Kenya and in their judgment how it is impacting the economic future of Kenya. Kenya has the ability to become Africa's first industrialized nation, but only after the end of corruption.
I lived there 91-95, I only remember 93-95, but even Somalis lived a higher quality of life than the local Kikuyus and Luos, I know the disparity. Kenyans had a chance and could've utilized Somalis to dislodge the Indians and Whites from Nairobi, which Somalis did anyway (with Indians) but they always picked fights with Somalis and other Africans who would treat them as equals. Those fuckers dug their own graves and continue to do so. Clear sign of nigger syndrome which is incurable, especially when you have a master in the house (Indians & Whites). I don't know if things have changed since Arap-Moi days but I had a Kenyan classmate who strangely enough came from the same neighborhood I lived in, and she said nothing has changed, not even demographics from house to house, I think the country has a permanent pattern going. I think the alternative is worse, Somalis or lazy reer Mombasa running things would be ugly.
Whites and especially European Whites are not existent anymore in Kenya as landowners or business leaders. Somalis have taken over. Do you know even the biggest bank in Kenya and most of east Africa is the British Barclay's bank and a Somali man is the manager of Barclay's bank for Africa? As far as business and trading goes, we have replaced both Whites and their sponsored middle class Indians from the tip of Somalia to as far as the coastline to South Africa and Namibia. I have been to Kenya, to Zambia, to Botswana to South Africa, etc in the last two years. I know what I am talking. I hope Somalis can use their experience of established laws in these countries to fix up their state. It would be a shame if they don't with their potential for trade and business development.

That's a fake list. Its totally made up for the most part.
The true list is the one I posted, according to price index instead of bullshit. If you think Somalia surpasses any country, you truly have a Hawiye brain.
