Careers Vs Somalis ways of thinking

Post by Jesteye »

"Hooyodey/Aabahey Aa I dhahay baro Dhakhtarnimo" Mentality is ruining the Careers of Future (Somali) Nobel prize winners.

I know, this brilliant Brother and Mathematical genius. And guess what? His parent convinced the poor kid to study Medicine After A-Level! His weakest Subject!Imagine a kid studying A-Level History, Physics, Maths and English applying to study Medicine. What a f-king waste of talent!

I don't understand Somali Families ways of thinking. Is a "Dhakhtar" more valuable than a Mathematician?! The kid is only 16 and can easily work-out Undergraduate Level Mathematical problems And his parents want, a doctor?!

Somalis are generally people whose perception of themselves is defined more by others than themselves. We need to encourage rational thinking and better choices.

Since the parents are the ones paying for his education, he'll have study whatever they want him. If they want him to study medicine than that he gonna study.
He can study what he wants/goods at after becoming a doctor and being able to pay for it himself.

Jest,

Majority of mathematicians ended up in mental institutions so why not save your kid from going nutz?

I agree with you though, career is about what you do best, not where the most money is. Most of us think that happiness equals to money which ain’t the case.

^^^Baseless Claim.

Probably, the numbers of Engineers, Philosophers & Businessman's in mental Institutions is higher than that of Mathematicians.

Becoming a math teacher is a good source of income. If someone could talk to the parents and show them the salaries of Math professors, perhaps they may change their mind. In America anyway. Median Income -> $64000 , Higher levels -> $89,500 based on CNNMONEY research. It is actually Associate professor salaries.

Man, few things are more interesting than Math. Imagine all the fun the kid would have in his lifetime reading, researching and exploring stuff?. Some said Math is the Language of God Almighty. Rules are written in that language of how things Operate. What is more fun than that?
