Why an independent Somaliland is good for Somalia!

Post by Aristokraft »

Unless you are a person suffering from qabyaalad, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out why an independent Somaliland is good for Somalia. Look at Djibouti, once part of greater Somalia, today a lesser mirror of what Somalia might have become if only the civil war hadn't occured. Djibouti has offered economical opportunities, trade relations, safety and security for thousands of Somalis fleeing the conflict. Many Somalis who tired of living in the West, but have not been able to return to Somalia have settled for Djibouti, why? Because its the next best thing to Somalia.

Whenever I see all the fuss over whether Somaliland should be an independent country or not, it leaves me scratching my head. Why should the North be forced to remain with a country that no longer functions as a State? Why should millions of people be denied once again the opportunity to capitalize on their full potentials? A successful and independent Somaliland is good for Somalia, it beats having non-Muslim Ethiopia and Kenya as neighbors. We can all retire there if Allah permits, in case Somalia doesn't work out. Heck, I'm already planning buying a plot of land in Sheikh.

Hopefully we can all learn to be hospitable to one another for the sake of Somalinimo.

Somaliland has made history today. This is wonderful news and its testament to the type of Political system that exists in Somaliland. A politics of deference, compromise and one which is pragmatic.

God Bless :sland:

Really i dont care as long as they dont hand over my peeps and as long as they dont force anyone into accepting this concept of Somaliland ex. Sool,Sanaag, etc.
But it happens to be that without Sool,Sanaag and Awdal there is no Somaliland recognition bid? Good luck to them.

Arsitocrat,

If that is correct then USA would have had more than 50 different flags.

Have you ever heard:

Gacmo wadajir bay wax ku gooyaan?
Far keliyi fool ma dhaqdo?

Do you really think it is a good Idea to have:

Somaliland,
Puntland,
Galmudugland,
Hiiraan-land,
Benaadir Land,
Etc etc etc

Marc,

If it continues in this situation, each group will seek independence like the Emirates...and Meles will gladly help each group to seek that... :!:

British Somaliland if we are to go to the British colonial drawing board is completely different than that of the birth of Somaliand-NW Somalia. Just as the imperial power of Arabia, the House of Saud ruled. A monarchy so too existed and still exist in the former British Somaliland, if we are basing a nation drawn by colonial powers than its inheriters would be the imperials that fall in line in this case the House of British Somaliland. That era has passed re-hashing maps will not gain any group specifically a group which had no power or rule in British Somaliland. Morroco, Saudia Arabia, Jordan, Khaleej are all examples of state power ruled by Monarchs.

Somaliland is just another clan enclave whose existence makes no sense and doesnt hold string. Dont take them serious, let them enjoy their celebrations

I would have at least expected better analysis than this empty bravado and the doom and gloom you are putting forward here. Somaliland is more unique than all these other entities. Somaliland has a unique historical claim to sovereignty, its has its own currency and many more feature of a de facto state including its own military and defined borders. These other entities you have mentioned are more prone to changes and shifts in their politics.

Meles actually opposes Somaliland becoming a sovereign state, he opposes South Sudan from becoming a an Independent state because it sets a dangerous precedent in Africa's Yugoslavia(Ethiopia). He has the Somalilanders fooled, its just another pawn in this chess game hes playing in Somalia. If Meles was Somalilands friend as a major player in the AU, he would have lifted the AU obstacle facing Somaliland and himself should have taken the first step to recognise Somaliland.Heck he can probably get Somaliland signed off in Xamar but he doesnt care.Theres no difference between Puntland and Somaliland to him.
