Important :Somali Community in UK Must Report Racist Incidents=

Following the arrest of Yasin Hassan Omar as suspect in the investigation in to the London bombing attempts, it could possibly make some of you feel vulnerable to discrimination or victimisation from others within our communities. Whilst there is no information to suggest this is likely to happen we are aware that is a possibility and what is vital is that any such incidents are reported to the police. If the police are not told of any problems it is much more difficult for them to do anything about it. Incidents can be reported at any local police station, they have dedicated team of officers who investigate hate crime on a full-time basis, and every report is treated extremely seriously.

The Police forces across United Kingdom are committed to treat every member of the community with dignity, respect and according to need.

The Somali Voice Newspaper is currently working in partnership with the local communities, voluntary groups and the Police to prevent crime and to build a relationship of trust with all sections of the community in Britain. We are committed maintaining community relations in this country.

We believe the Somali Community are not reporting many racist, homophobic, or other incidents that are motivated by prejudice to the police. We understand that it may be difficult for all sorts of reasons to come forward but we need to hear from you if you have been a victim. You will be treated with sensitivity and your complaint will deliver to the police and government and investigated thoroughly.

Please contact us if you have been:

- attacked or threatened with violence
- called names or suffered any other verbal abuse
- sent offensive letters, e-mails, or text messages
- had your property interfered with or damaged
- suffered any other form of harassment

If any of these things have been happening to you, we want you to come forward however we can only deal with the problem with your help.
