Driving
How long did it take you to get completely comfortable with driving on your own after you got your car?

Re: Driving
I was driving by myself at 15 and got my license at 16. I don't think I have ever come close to killing someone, but then again I'm a man

Re: Driving
Diffeent strokes for different folks dee.I've know people that as soon as they passed
drove on their own like somebody that had been driving for year
On the other hand I know some that even two years after passing are still not comfortable
behind the wheel.

Depends where you live and what the rules are. My advice is involve yourself in a driving school. In that case, you will learn all of the basics from an expert.BlackVelvet wrote:How long did it take you to get completely comfortable with driving on your own after you got your car?

Re: Driving
I remember when I first started drivers ed the instructer was like ok get in the car and drive into the road without any prior expierence. I was like this guy is crazy, hes trying to get us all killed. But I think he knew, he knew I was something else, he expected great things from me, and lets just say I didn't disappoint.
Just believe in yourself and become one with the road BV and it will get you to where your suppose to be.

Re: Driving
Uk doesn't have room on their roads for you to become road kill, I know I've seen your roads on mr bean shows.
Driving aint that hard be alert, focus on a point in the distance to keep you from swerving a lot, my sister told me that and it helped a lot, and know it takes everybody sometime before they're ever comfortable driving alone.
P.s. Don't take anybody dramatic they will fuck with your nerves and scar you for life.

Re: Driving
BV,
Some good driving rules:
1. Learn how to handle blind spots. These are critical things to do and check when you are turning left, right, or when you are backing up. Relying on rearview mirrors only is dangerous. You should be able to check over your shoulders before you make the decision to turn or backup.
2. Never hit the brakes suddenly when your car is in motion. This is especially dangerous when you are in over 30 mph speeds. Your car will definitely skid and if you are driving over ice or if it is raining, you will need a lot of prayers. So, no sudden brakes.
3. Flow with the traffic when you are driving on a highway. Not faster and not slower.
4. If you see a car in front you that is weaving around and not stable, change lanes right away. That is a sign of someone who is drunk.
5. Being courteous is part of driving. You should let other drivers to get the lines in front of you, you shouldn't rush to pass them or take them over their lines. This is part of defensive driving.
6. If you are driving on a highway in USA and come across a car whose lights are off and that car is going the opposite direction, avoid flushing your lights to warn that motorists that his/her lights are off. The reason why you shouldn't warn is you may be dealing with a gang member who is in the initiation phase. As part the gang initiation, they get on the highway and have their lights off. The 1st motorists who warns them is the one they come after and shoot. This is part of the gang initiation that new members go through.
.
.
.
I can give you a long list but would leave it there. The BMV instructions in your state/province should give you all of the details.

Thanks for the list. You can't be serious about this one though
Zuli that is not giving much hope but then again I suppose the moment you get too comfortable is when you start making mistakes.

Re: Driving
In my previous job in Atlanta the company invited one of the senior police officers from the County where our company HQ was located. That was one of the advice he gave us in 2004. Remember, this is only on the highway and it is normally in later hours when there is no rush and very much the road is clear. It is actually safety precaution than it is a defensive driving. It was on my mind so I just post it there.BlackVelvet wrote:Thanks for the list. You can't be serious about this one though
