Is every Somali an expert on any thing?
Do you folks notice nearly every Somali would try to answer any topic that is being discussed even if that individual has no idea, I mean not an expert, on what is being discussed? Believe me folks I noticed it.
Could that be some of the underlying problems that are preventing the Somalis from ever reaching a peaceful and just settlement to the endless saga in Somalia?

Re: Is every Somali an expert on any thing?
If you post a thread, make comments or repute some one on Snet forums that doesn’t make you an expert and you don’t have to be an expert to express your opinions because opinions are not facts as long as you follow these rules, I don’t see where is the problem
Re: Is every Somali an expert on any thing?
Goljano,
I did not refer to comments and opinions posted in SNET only. It is my general observation in Somali society that we are somehow experts on any thing and have strong opinions on nearly every topic. We are somehow lost the whole concept that if you don't know something at all, just stay out of it and don't form opinions around it until you see all of the facts.
Do you notice how they handle in American courts when the jury is dealing with certain cases that they have no background on but have to make a decision whether they believe the prosecution or the defense? All of the experts are brought in, all of the facts are presented, and if the defense lawyer has very good experts, all of the facts are examined and they look at every angle of the prosecution's case and try any way possible to refute or show the flaws in their arguments and evidence. When all of the testimony is presented, the jury makes an informed decision about it. Keep in mind, it is not one of the best of systems in the world.
My question is why we Somalis are experts on any thing even if we do not know one iota of it? How come we already have our minds made up on any thing? That is what I have observed in our society and that is why I have started this thread so we can discuss about it.

I think the lack of posts debunks your theory udun
Re: Is every Somali an expert on any thing?
Which posts? Try to start a topic on any subject and you will notice any one would jump on it. Just try to add salt and peper (humour) and you will be amazed the number of posts that is responding to it. Brothers, let us not get defensive. This is very common in our society and i think we should address it.seemeyer wrote:I think the lack of posts debunks your theory udun

That is very simple but then you have to go back to Somali clan mentality and how it operates, just observe Snet opinions and compare Somalis to other societies, Somalis don’t think as an individual, we think as group kolkaa Clans make decisions and we have to follow like a sheep.
In fact individual thinking or differences are not tolerated in Somali society either you follow the shepherd and get on aboard or you will bet in the cold.

Every individuals should have the right to express themselves. This is an on-line forum after all; that allows people to contribute towards the discussions. Having said that, I think everyone has some valid opinion, since we all are different and see things differently. There is no one single definitive truth.udun wrote:Do you folks notice nearly every Somali would try to answer any topic that is being discussed even if that individual has no idea, I mean not an expert, on what is being discussed? I think the concern for me personally is that there is no deference nor an understanding of the etiquettes of having a discussion. We can all agree to disagree in other words.

Some have found ways to maximize from lawless state and will do their best to keep it that way, can that be an answer among many others for your question!udun wrote:Do you folks notice nearly every Somali would try to answer any topic that is being discussed even if that individual has no idea, I mean not an expert, on what is being discussed? I have no knowledge of this subject and therefore I shall refer to udun's expert observations here.

Re: Is every Somali an expert on any thing?
Only small portion of it. Goljano also mentioned another piece and Ciyaal Warta was very much close to what I saw even tough I don't agree that it is only Reer Mudug who act it in those ways but generally all Somalis.Navy9 wrote:Some have found ways to maximize from lawless state and will do their best to keep it that way, can that be an answer among many others for your question!udun wrote:Do you folks notice nearly every Somali would try to answer any topic that is being discussed even if that individual has no idea, I mean not an expert, on what is being discussed? That is the culture udun. There is a famous line somalis from central Somalia are known for when you tell them something: "Ma adigaa yiri", it is the first salvo and an argument from them that must end in their favour whether they have it right or wrong(which mostly they are --> very wrong). Up north where somalis there call themselves Somalilanders, the saying goes "Dee waan daadshay". It is rare to meet a somali, young and old in Somalia specially who isn't an expert on everything.
