Muslim clerics in London say they warned police a year ago about one of the men who is now being held over his alleged involvement in the failed London bomb plot.

They say they wrote to authorities saying Hussain Osman was a danger to Muslims and the wider community.

Osman, 27, is an Ethiopian-born Briton who was arrested in Rome accused of being one of the four would-be suicide bombers who tried to detonate explosives on the London transport system on July 21.

The trustee of a south London mosque, Toaha Qureishi, says he warned police about Osman nearly a year to the day before the failed bid to bomb London's transport system.

He says Osman was one of a group of men who were ejected from the mosque for fear they wanted to radicalise the young men who attended.

"[Osman] was more intimidating and more physical," Mr Qureishi said.

"The authorities were informed in writing. I think the police can do more.

"I think we all know that police did not assess the scale of threat. [They thought] it was only talk but it wasn't at all, it was a real threat."

The sad part is, as Western governments adopt more and more restrictive measures against Muslims residing within their countries to protect themselves, it will be your average law abiding Muslim who pays the price for the radicals behavior.
