Two Minnesota women plead not guilty in Somali terror probe


ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Two Minnesota women have pleaded not guilty to federal charges of supporting a Somali terrorist group.

(AP) — Two Minnesota women have pleaded not guilty to federal charges of supporting a Somali terrorist group.


Amina Farah Ali and Hawo Mohamed Hassan, both of Rochester, entered their pleas Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Keyes in St. Paul.


Keyes set a trial date of Oct. 12, but prosecutors told him that may change.


The two women were among 14 people named in indictments unsealed last week. They are accused of being part of a pipeline that routed money and fighters from the U.S. to the Somali insurgent faction al-Shabab.


Attorneys for the women declined comment.


About a dozen Somali women, mostly from Rochester, demonstrated outside the courthouse on behalf of the two defendants. They said the women were engaged in legitimate aid efforts for the poor in Somalia.

I wouldn't be surprised if this case turns out to be another wild goose chase. Unfortunately, the justice system is not in favour of a muslim accused of terrorism regardless of whether the government provides evidence or not. Gunatanamo anyone? Most of the guantanamo prisoners are gone and released. They had us convinced the worst of the worst of terrorists back then were under lock and key. Turns out some of them were under age kids.
