Great read

Garissa is where Absames from anywhere can find a place to stay/invest/live in complete security. You would be astonished by the number of Reer Ogadeniya in that town.

Lord,
While I am happy for Garissa to see such development, I am also upset with Garisa because it has neglected its sister city on the other side of the border. Garisa and Kismaayo are two cities with very identical history and people. Once in a while Garisa should evict all the Reer Waamo just to remind them that they would need to go back to their cities.

I have lots of family members in Garisa with plenty of businesses as many Maqaabuls are migrating to Garisa from Wajeer......Wajeer, Wardheer and Badhaadhe connections
Look at this:
My great grandfather is buried in Badhaadhe, my grandfather in Wardheer and his younger brother in Wajeer----

Horta how big is Wajeer? And is Maqaabul the biggest clan?

Wajir town is quite big, not as big as Garissa of course. Degodia (west & some areas of east) and Ogaden (south, some areas of east and south east) are 2 largest Somali clans there. Maqaabul (in Kenya we don't use terms like Makahiil or Reer Sacad ama Abrahiim) are 2nd largest Ogaden sub-clan in Wajir town and Wajir district. I think most of them live in locations around Wajir South Constituency.

In Wajeer town and district, the largest Ogaden sub-clan is Reer Abdille (Ugas Guleed, Cali Nasir, Ugas Nuur, Reer Baxar), followed by Maqabuul and Bah Geri. There is also a small Gerri Kombe community living with them.

Wajir district has 4 constituency. Wajir North (Ajuuraan, this constituency was created by president Moi to stop the horrific conflict between them and Degodia over Wajir West constituency representation); Wajir West (Degodia, especially Reer Maxamuud), Wajir East Constituency which includes huge chunks of the town (Degodia again, the none reer maxamuud sub-clans, even though this constituency contains some Ogaden deegans); and Wajir South (Ogaden).

Degodia is the largest Somali clan in Wajir district I think and very cunning people as well.

Wajir South Constituency has had 10 MPs since Kenya became independent in 1963 and around 7 of them were Reer Abdille I think especially the famous Ogle family [Ugaas Guleed] (and 3 Maqabuuls). The last Maqabuul MP is ambassador Affey (92-97). For Maqabuul to win this seat, they need the support of Bah Geri (which they always do) and Reer Abdille to have many candidates standing.

There will be a by election soon and I won't be shocked if a Maqabuul carry this famous seat. I hope I have provided good info.

You did thanks! Remember with my family connections to Wajeer, I have never seen NFD. When the war broke out, my family were one of the thousands of OGs who fled to Ogadenia from Muqdisho. I am hoping one of those days I will visit NFD; especially Garisa and Wajeer. I would like to talk to my ancestors in Wajeer who migrated from Jooray.

What kind of people are Degodia? Do they get along with the OGs fine? They must be very cunning people because Wajeer was one of the very first places the OG settled in NFD and the OGs not to be able to dominate the city shows the how smart the Degodia are.....Remember in those times, the last clan you would wanna share land was OG...They were true warriors who stopped nothing short of total domination....

Inshallah one day you will visit the region, I would advice you to do so in the months of June to August time, the weather is nice and bearable this time. I was last in Wajir town 20 years ago and it wasn't a nice place then. The water was salty (no river in Wajir) and horrible toilets, I can't explain how bad it was.

the Degodias are in the main good people, like us (and other Somali people) they have good and bad people. There has been some conflict between us and them in 80s, mostly among the pastoralists, but in Wajeer town, there is tranquillity and calmness. You have to remember: unlike in Garissa city, Wajir is a demarcated and segregated town, every clans has it is own area. They are the majority in the whole district and not the town, there are many Degodias in Ethiopia and some of them move to Wajir district.

Also, around 80 yrs ago, the Cowlyahans who used to live in this area started to move in southward directions towards Garissa, they pushed the Boranas (an Oroma people) and this has greatly reduced the population of the Ogadenis in the district. You're right we first settled in Wajir district but remember, the Tolomoges were always moving southwards towards River Tana and were pushing the Warday backwards.
