Mogadishu — Heavy fighting between the transitional government of Somalia and fighters of Harakat Al-shabab Mujahideen has broken out in parts of the Somali capital Mogadishu, causing casualties, witnesses said on Wednesday.
Reports say that the fighting started at war zones of the rivals in Hodan district of the capital where the two forces reportedly exchanged heavy gunfire that continued for a while, killing several people, wounding many others.
Government officers whom we had contacted through the telephone claimed victory over the fighting. There had no comment from the other sides of the fighting so far.
The fighting follows other gun battle between the transitional government soldiers and Hizbul Islam fighters in parts of the same district yesterday that caused casualties of deaths and injures.
The clash between the two sides is part of the confrontations that often happen in Mogadishu and cause casualties of the civilians as the Somali people are in the holy Ramadan month which all Muslims needed to be fast.
