I'm 95 and my groom is 88! Meet Britain's oldest toyboy couple (and the honeymoon's a game of bowls)

Long-distance love is tiring for anyone, but for 95-year-old Edna Holford and her 88-year-old toy boy Harry Corton the 700-mile round trip was taking its toll.
So when Harry, from Barnsley, West Yorkshire, proposed to his southern belle this year his Cornish girlfriend didn’t hesitate to say yes.
The couple – who have a combined age of 183 years - met at a tea dance in Brighton five years ago and would make the epic 700-mile trip three or four times a year.

They married on Saturday at Camborne Register Office in Cornwall in front of friends and family after Harry eventually popped the question at Easter.
The romantic couple can now count Harry as Britain's oldest newlywed toyboy and Harry has moved south into his blushing bride’s home in Redruth, Cornwall.

Edna said: ‘I was rather surprised when he proposed but, of course, said yes. We couldn't live in sin just because of our ages.
‘We love each other. I was married in blue because our love is true. Harry has a home in Yorkshire but I couldn't move up there, it's too cold.’
She added: ‘This is about companionship as well as love. We were lonely people living on our own. Being together is fun.’


Edna’s sister Ivy, 97, her stepdaughter Diana Jennings and step granddaughter, Kate Bird were among the guests.
Diana said: ‘It was a lovely occasion, with lots of tears. It was a very moving ceremony because it's so rare.

‘At one point the registrar asked them to move a little closer together. Harry's reply was “we'll save that for later".’
Harry and Edna decided against a honeymoon, opting to celebrate instead at their weekly game of indoor bowls.
Last month 97-year-old Henry Kerr married his 87-year-old sweetheart Valerie Berkowitz after a four-year campaign to win over the obect of his affections, giving the couple a combined age of 184.

Britain's previous oldest newlyweds include Peggy and James Mason, of Paignton, Devon, who had a combined age of 177. James proposed to his sweetheart just three days after they met and the couple married a month later in 2007.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records the oldest couple to wed were a French couple who married in 2002, aged 96 and 94 respectively - a total of 190 years.
