Pizza deliverer fled violence of Somalia, dies in Calgary stabbing

Like many of his friends and family, Mohammad Ahmed Mahmud fled Somalia to escape a future threatened by violence and fighting.

So it's heartbreaking and ironic, says his uncle, that the 36-year-old, who delivered pizzas for a living, died of a stab wound following a fight.

"But every life has a time frame and maybe his time was done," said Abdulgani Bihi of his nephew, whose friends called him Ahmed.

"It's very, very sad. We don't know what happened or why he was there."

Police said he was fatally stabbed Friday at an apartment in the 1500 block of 21st Avenue S.W. It's believed he was arguing with a resident.

"He was stabbed once in the heart or the chest with scissors," said Bihi. "One stab and he is gone."
