This is very interesting indeedAbout 200 suspected rebels are surrounded by Somaliland's forces near the border with Ethiopia, a Somaliland minister has said.
Interior Minister Mohamed Abdi Gabose told the BBC the men had arrived in the territory by boat and then travelled overland to the border.
He said documents the men left behind suggest they belong to the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF).
Somaliland has declared its independence from the rest of Somalia.
Its secession has not been internationally recognised but is far more stable than the rest of the country and in July held an election which saw a peaceful handover of power.
Mr Gabose said the armed group were surrounded in the mountainous region which borders Ethiopia and Djibouti.
The ONLF is fighting for the self-determination of ethnic Somalis in eastern Ethiopia, and has not yet commented on the allegations.
Eritrea has previously been accused of training ONLF rebels - charges it denies.
Eritrea and Ethiopia have a long-running border dispute.
Somaliland has previously helped the Ethiopian government in its fight against the ONLF.

It might be the new resistance force called the Awdal National Liberation Front that was mistaken for Ogaden National Liberation Front.RuralMan08 wrote:Its still not verified if its the ONLF. It might even be an anti djiboutian militia.

This just happened just as Oil companies left the Ogaden.

This new happened just as Oil companies left the Ogaden.
And then they left and went past xariirad into the mountain range called maarmaar.
This is all quite confusing we shall wait for confirmation but I dont think its a native Awdal force unless its the djiboutian opposition, if thats the case then they are probably gadabursi and canfar.

Rumors has it’s a grass root movement which has popular support from the people of Awdal who were recently seen waving the Somali flagseemeyer wrote:Awdal National Liberation Front![]()

loool you never know its likely, but I truly suspect since they went to the ethiopian djibouti border then it might be an anti-djiboutian or anti-ethiopian group.Oxidant wrote:Rumors has it’s a grass root movement which has popular support from the people of Awdal who were recently seen waving the Somali flagseemeyer wrote:Awdal National Liberation Front![]()

Well all I know is that the opposition leader, the most famous one is ciise, dahir ahmed. There was another one called FRUD which included every Djiboutian, Afar, cise, gadabursi and habrawal. But im just guessing now, i really have no clue if these groups still exist.seemeyer wrote:Rural Gadabursi,do they have anti-Djibouti jabhad,I thoght only the Anfar opposed Djibouti
However we had our own opposition group called UDD. You can read it:
According to Political Handbook of the World: 1994-1995, the UDD was founded in January 1992 as a Gadabursi clan party opposed to Djibouti president Hassan Gouled (1994, 239). The UDD was a founding member of the Front Uni de l'Opposition Djiboutienne (FUOD), an alliance of Afar and anti-government Issa clan groups begun in Paris in June 1992 (ibid., 238). The leaders of the UDD are Mahdi Ibrahim God and Mohamed Moussa Ainache (ibid., 239). For additional information on the UDD, please consult the attachments.
Information on the impact on the UDD or the Gadabursi of the peace agreement between the government and the Front pour la Restauration de l'Unité et de la Démocratie (FRUD) could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.

Why do assume Anti-Djiboutian group? What has the Djibouti done to warrant a resistance militia against them except the constitutional change by the president?RuralMan08 wrote: loool you never know its likely, but I truly suspect since they went to the ethiopian djibouti border then it might be an anti-djiboutian or anti-ethiopian group.
It’s either ONLF, New Awdal resistance group and an unlikely candidate would be SSC fighters trying to get to their region.

Clutching at straws for a Somaliland opposition
If it's not ONLF then I think Rural is closer to the mark simply because of the geographical location

Re: Somaliland forces 'surround ONLF rebels near Ethiopia'
Oxidant its more complicated than that lol. Djibouti has a lot of enemies, The Canfar and some Gadabuursi and even a few Ciise who dont like how fat cat Ghuelle is sticking to the seat of power. Even within the ciises there are many who oppose the regime including many from the fourlabe subclan of the ciise. ONLF? We'll have to wait and see. Awdal resistance? Allahu Aclam, God knows. Its highly unlikely for it to be SSC though, they could easily have gone through boosaaso or laas qoray.Oxidant wrote:
