Somaliland Forces Surround ONLF
Somaliland forces 'surround ONLF rebels near Ethiopia'
Monday, September 13, 2010
About 200 suspected rebels are surrounded by Somaliland's forces near the border with Ethiopia, a Somaliland minister has said.
Interior Minister Mohamed Abdi Gabose told the BBC the men had arrived in the territory by boat and then travelled overland to the border.
He said documents the men left behind suggest they belong to the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF).
Somaliland has declared its independence from the rest of Somalia.
Its secession has not been internationally recognised but is far more stable than the rest of the country and in July held an election which saw a peaceful handover of power.
Mr Gabose said the armed group were surrounded in the mountainous region which borders Ethiopia and Djibouti.
The ONLF is fighting for the self-determination of ethnic Somalis in eastern Ethiopia, and has not yet commented on the allegations.
Eritrea has previously been accused of training ONLF rebels - charges it denies.
Eritrea and Ethiopia have a long-running border dispute.
Somaliland has previously helped the Ethiopian government in its fight against the ONLF.

Mohamed Subeer should follow other Ogadens subclans and join other Somalis. they can't do anything by themselves.AsadSL wrote:ONLF is only down to reer issak now.
Why do Somaliland care if other Somalis use the ports, they allow Ethiopian goverment to bring weapons, food and other stuff on their port, why do they have to snitch on Somalis?

what freudian slip? you allow Ethiopians to use your port, and bring weapons that are used against Somalis, so what if ONLF does the same?marcassmith wrote:IRONm@N wrote:Why do Somaliland care if other Somalis use the ports, they allow Ethiopian goverment to bring weapons, food and other stuff on their port, why do they have to snitch on Somalis?AsadSL wrote:ONLF is only down to reer issak now.

Valid arguement!
OG would never travel through another man's land without prior consultation with the owner of the land. With recent activity across the Ogadeen region and ethiopians blocking all transit points between somalia and Ogadeen perhabs the ethiopians were aware of the eriteria plan?
Eriteria fuels every rebel group against the stability of ethiopia, OLF, ONLF, shabab, XI, Afar, etc. To which ethiopia responds by tackling each group as a seperate and issolate issue. Eriteria itself is simply a vassal for Egypt. Solution Ethiopia should just bomb Asmara and peace would return to the horn of africa.
Re: Somaliland Forces Surround ONLF
How on earth does Eritrea have the capability to fund all these organization while itself having a high military budget. Why don't you mention Ethiopia funding Eritrean rebels and opposition groups?Cirwaaq wrote:

Pure propaganda against Eritrea. No solid evidence of Eritrea involvement in Somalia and Ogaden has ever been produced. Where were these 2000 Eritreans troops stationed with UIC in 2006? They were never to been seen.
If anything, the Ethiopian government is the sole reason for so much instability in the Horn not Eritrea, remove of the TPLF will usher in a new wave of peace and prosperity in the horn
