Re: Sanaag
Rent a car or get on Siisow/sabaax (Isuzu) from Boosaaso and head to Sanaag. In about few hours, you will be in Dhahar and there you are in Warsangeli stronghold. From that point, you are in Sanaag. You can visit Xingalool, Badhan, Hadaaftimo, Laasqoray, Awrboogays, Fiqifuliye, and Ceerigaabo.

Re: Sanaag
Its not even safe these days, so wait until the Galgala thing dies out. But like Udun said, the easiest route is via Bosaso.
Sanaag is quite boring though, if you wanna experience Warsangeli life, stick to Western Bari, they don't even have Waqoyi accent there.
Below are Warsangeli towns in W. Bari.

Re: Sanaag
There isnt a airport. A couple landing strips exist rarely used except for khat. Normally you'd land in Bosaaso, depends on where in Sanaag your going.Murax wrote:How does one visit this region?
Their are only a few towns anyone actually goes to and some villages where people from sub-clans would go or visit.
From Bosaaso, you head to Ceel Doofar to go rough road to Badhan which goes to Ceelbuh to Hadaaftimo to Yube to Erigavo.
If your headed to Laas Qoray you go west from Bosaaso to Qaw-Ceelayo-Dur Duri pretty straight forward. If your going to South Sanaag you would enter near Qardho to Dhahar- Xingalool-Damal Xagare ect.
But the actual towns where people settle are completely Warsangeli besides some inhabitants in the far west and these are villages. With no real infrastructure.
If your headed to Sanaag you'd probably want to go to Badhan- Erigavo- Large towns with a little diversity.

You've never been to Somalia.paidmonk wrote:Its not even safe these days, so wait until the Galgala thing dies out. But like Udun said, the easiest route is via Bosaso.
There are two ways about it; the easy way and the hard way.
The easy way is to just head immediately west of Bosaso on a coastal road that takes you through Ceelaayo and to Las Qoray. Once you reach Las Qoray, you can go directly south on a diverging road that is decently paved to Badhan and a few more miles west of Badhan is Hadaaftimo. The roads here are decent.
The hard way is to go to Dhahar and the only reason its the hard way is because there aren't any real good roads that lead in or out of this town, its kind of in the middle of nowhere but its close to Qardho so if you find your way back to Qardho you should be on your way back north. Dhahar is just a strange place, its so far removed from the rest of Warsangeliland.
I'd advise ANYONE to skip Majarteenia due to its insecurity, especially a Marehan. From Laas Qoray to Badhan is not the route ANYONE TAKES.
Besides the Galgala issue, which really hasnt touched media sources online, the reality in Bosaaso is MAJOR PLAYERS be they religious/secular from the Dubays sub clan can determine the status of this town. Thats one thing Somalinet has been not understanding and the recent fiasco is nothing short except the demise of what Dubeys and Majarteen will see.
I wouldnt even advise a NON-WARSANGELI to travel threw Qaw since its known for theifs who are MJ jacking cars.

Oldenglish, you are Cawrmale, Galgala is an MJ-Warsangeli problem not yours. Your geo-political knowledge is in Buulo Xaaji not Bari nor Sanaag. I have relatives in Bosaso, you have refugees in Bosaso.

Paidmonk,
The areas I'd want to go are those friggin amazon, waterfall type areas and thats only in Sanaag I think.
Vangandi,
How would I get to Hadaftimo, Calmadow and Lasqoray? Btw, I wouldn't want to go to Ceerigaabo as I heard theres Idoors there and I wouldn't want to see them on my trip. They'd get a Xabashi convoy to come pick me up saying I'm Shabab.

Re: Sanaag
Land in Bosaaso go to Ceel Dofar and make a right to West on off beaten rough road- its 40 km and about 6 hrs. It would make for a great tourist destination. Safe, normal, people great climate and food.
I'd goes as far as to say its the best place in East Africa, thats within miles from insane clan enclaves and chaos.

To head to Calmadow you could either go to Laasqoray- which is west of Bosaaso or go to Badhan into Calmadow. Calmadow is uninhabited and used as grazing by the local Adan Siciids-Reer Xaaji. Its breath taking, all tips of fruits -vegetables grow there and some rare and exclusive plants found only in Calmadow exist.
The people have maintained their stance on reserving and prereserving, as they respect nature. You wouldn't be touched by iidoors if you wanted to head to Erigavo. We outnumber them 3-1, (its a SOmalinet phenom that these ones found here focus their time on a town they dont inhabit/migrated too) its really a town in the middle of nowhere that has a similar climate to a Switzerland really cool and consistant never hot and cold in the winters due to elevation.
A lot of the action in Sanaag is Central-Eastern since the entire population is inhabited on low lands and not on mountains except for villages.
