Interest on Pakistan's debt is larger than its GDP, therefore it cannot sustain formidable military. In reality it needs to sell off all that stuff to pay off this humongous debt.
Turkey: buying hardware from potential opponent doesn't constitute a military might. U gotta design, manufacture and deploy your own military hardware. Turkey was much stronger in the 19th century with this cannon. At least they engineered it from ground up.

Waryaa,
Well put bro. Unless you can manufacture your own weaponry, you don't qualify as a mighty military power.

Warya,
Numbers can be deceiving. The total 2010 GDP of Pakistan was 177 Billion USD and the debt was arounf 113 Billion USD. BUT, out of that 113 Billion Debt ONLY 45 Billion is Foreign Debt. Adding the entire debt which amounts to 113 Billion it amounts to around 63% of the Pakistani GDP. This is not too bad. The percentage of the US Debt in relation to GDP is 378%
So you need to be careful with these sorts of numbers. Besides, Pakistan manufactures overwhelming majority of its military hardware from planes to tanks to destroyers to submarines and to Missile. Actually, Pakistan is one of the great military goods exporters of the world and the defense sector exports will most likely touch the 1 Billion USD mark within the next couple years.
In terms of Turkey, there is no shame in accumulating know-how from your neighbors. Turkey is the ONLY manufacturer of the F-16 other than America and will also manufacture the Stealth fighter F-35. Do you know how big that is? Besides, Pakistan and Turkey are increasingly working to harmonize their defense assets in terms of what weapons they acquire and are moving to have the same sorts of weapons from Submarines (U-214s) Jets (F-16s) UAVs (MALE) and AWACS.

The only thing is: Both Pakistan and Turkey are MAJOR Military Weapon Manufacturers. Pakistan Made ALL the weapons displayed above except the F-16s and Turkeys makes BOTH the F-16 and the F-35

twisted, about Pakistan, i will dig an economist article a coupe of years back which is my source. Nevertheless, Pakistan is dependent on IMF and World Bank to sustain. You can google it. Without IMF's support Pakistan cannot afford to pay government employees let alone maintaining such large military. The reason I said Pakistan cannot afford this military is based on its financial situation. It has been getting more loans every year to stay solvent.
You cannot compare to the two economies, Pakistan is dead without IMF. I wonder how it was allowed to spend almost every penny it gets on military.
About its GDP, Tiny Israel has much more GDP than Pakistan
copy/past from US State Dep.
In 2008, the ratio of total debt and liabilities to GDP, a broad measure of the country's capacity to sustain debt, saw an end to a seven-year declining trend, rising in FY 2008 to 60%. The stock of Pakistan's total debt and liabilities increased by 27% year on year in 2008, to PKR 6,417.4 billion (U.S. $80.7 billion at 79.5 rupees per dollar), with a commensurate deterioration in debt sustainability indicators. The fiscal deficit widened from 5.6% of GDP in 1994-95, to 7.7% in 1997-98, and to 5.4% in 2008-2009. Support for loss-making, state-owned enterprises; fuel subsidies; and a weak domestic tax base have been critical elements in the recurring fiscal deficits.
In October 2008, Pakistan entered into a 23-month Stand-By Arrangement with the IMF in order to keep the country solvent and to support its foreign exchange reserves, which had fallen to precariously low levels. The $11.3 billion IMF loan supports two key objectives of restoring macroeconomic stability and confidence in the economy through a significant tightening of macroeconomic policies and ensuring social stability and adequate support for the poor. Other reforms include improvements in banking and tax legislation, phasing out electricity subsidies, and reducing foreign exchange market intervention by the State Bank of Pakistan. A contingency plan for handling problem banks has been prepared and is being strengthened; an action plan to reform tax policy and administration has been adopted and will be implemented with technical assistance from the IMF and the World Bank.
Pakistan remains dependent on IMF and other international assistance for budgetary support and to keep the country more or less solvent. So far, Pakistan has met some of the IMF benchmarks, most recently implementing a 13.6% increase in electricity prices in January 2010. In 2009, Pakistan also received $2.11 billion in aid from the “Friends of Pakistan” group of allies, who pledged $5.7 billion in total.

My point regarding Turkey is that it was much more powerful in the 19th century - that still remains.

Military might is not only the number of planes, tanks and soldiers.
Its most of all your military thought, ideology etc
Turkey is the Nato watch dog, it was supposed to be the southern launching pad against the glorious Red Army.
Now that the red Army is dissolved its keeping an eye on arab countries for the Master...
As such it has no enemy , no military thought ...except terrorising the Kurds.
Surely these are no sign of military might!
As for the little Pakis...its a country which should not exist!
Its the only country, along Israel who is created on religious bases.
Well their politics, strategy and culture r best described by one word: Anti-Indianism!
Their strategy is to kill the kuffar!
their military thought is those of ancient sultans who raped India.
Verily these are no signs of military might.
A sick society creats only sick military...so there is no muslim world caliber Miliatries unless there is a sane muslim society.

Waryaa,
Many countries have huge debt and Pakistan is no exception. However, what is going for it is it has self-reliance military policies. It has Nuclear Weapons that it has manufactured, most of its tanks and artilery are produced locally, and it has also produced man-carryable anti-air missiles. What deters India is the tactical Nuks. My views on Pakistan is a great Muslim country that can put a serious fight if the sovereignty of its country is threatened.
