Sky internet porn users' details leaked online

By Daily Mail Reporter
28th September 2010

Thousands of Sky Broadband customers have had their personal details leaked online - alongside a list of pornographic films they allegedly downloaded and shared.
The list, which details the full names and addresses of over 5,300 internet users appeared on the internet following an attack on the website of law firm ACS:Law.

ACS:Law had compiled the list of people it believed were illegally sharing adult films using anti-piracy software.
The company uses third-party firms to scour the internet looking for possible infringements of film and music copyright.

ACS:Law has made hundreds of thousands of pounds from sending letters to alleged net pirates ordering them to pay compensation or face court and is currently under investigation by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
The list appeared online after users of the message board 4chan attacked ACS: Law's site in retaliation for its anti-piracy efforts, according to the BBC, which has seen the documents.
A message was posted on the website under the heading 'Operation Payback Is A B*****' aencouraging users to target Mr Crossley and his firm ACS:Law.

Around 1,000 confidential ACS:Law emails, including personal correspondence between Andrew Crossley - who runs the company - and his colleagues were leaked onto the popular file-sharing website The Pirate Bay.

The list of Sky Broadband customers was an attachment on one of the emails.
Privacy campaigner Alexander Hanff said the people whose details were leaked were now at 'significant risk of fraud'.

'This firm collected this information by spying on internet users and now it has placed thousands of innocent people at risk,' he said.
The leaking of the unencrypted document could be a breach of the Data Protection Act.

Mr Crossley said: 'We were the subject of a criminal attack to our systems.
