I am going to take the oath of Citizenship in October. I was thinking whether I will become African American or Somalian American. The problem is, There is no such thing as Somalian american In the American society classification. Either you are a caucasian, Native, African american, hespanic or Asian American.


What do you guys think I should call myself?

You'll be Somali American. If you look at it one way and squint your eyes, you'll notice that you're both African and American but you're really just an American. How about you just skip everything and tell whoever asks you that you're Somali. That's what I've been doing for the past decade nd some. When it comes to checking boxes, just check black or African decent. There shouldn't be a confusion about getting your passport for the first time.

Blacks call themselves African Americans because they dont know where the hell they came from so there African-American.If you had European slaves from across Europe shipped to America, they would probably end up being called European Americans.
