Ahmed Mumin Warfa is a Somali scientist specialized in botany (plant biology) who jointly discovered with his colleague Mats Thulin the Cyclamen somalense, the newest genus to be described.Dr. Warfa is also the "world's pre-eminent authority on frankincense

Warfa is also actively involved in the affairs of Somalia and the Somali diaspora, whether as a reconciliator working for the UN and the Somali President or as an activist raising funds for projects such as Hiiraan University.

Ali A. Abdi is a Somali-Canadian sociologist and educationist. He is a professor of Education and International Development at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, where he serves as the Co-Director of the Centre for Global Citizenship Education and Research (CGCER). He is also a past President of the Comparative and International Education Society of Canada (CIESC). In addition, he is the founding editorco-editor of the peer reviewed online publications Journal of Contemporary Issues in Education and 'Cultural and Pedagogical Inquiry'.

Ali Said Faqi is a Somali scientist and the leading researcher on the design and interpretation of toxicology studies at the MPI[disambiguation needed] research center in Mattawan, Michigan.

Faqi has published over 60 peer reviewed scientific papers, predominantly on toxicology. He has also worked in several countries such as Germany and Italy, where he is still a adjunct professor at the University of Palermo.. Prior to his position as director of MPI's toxicology department, Faqi was a senior scientist at IITRI in Chicago, Illinois and Allergan pharmaceuticals in Irvine, California.

Dr. Faqi is a full member of the Society of Toxicology and Teratology

Elmi Ahmed Duale is a Somali physician, diplomat and politician.

Duale graduated from the Sapienza University of Rome in 1960 with a Doctor of Medicine. From 1963 to 1968, he served as Director General of Somalia's Ministry of Health.

In 1974, Duale joined the World Health Organization (WHO), where he worked for 30 years. He has been the WHO Team Leader of the Programme Coordinator for Nigeria, the WHO Representative for Tanzania and Eritrea, and the WHO Public Health Consultant in Dar es Salaam.

In 2005, he became the Permanent Representative of Somalia to the United Nations in New York City.

Abdusalam Abubakar (16), a Somali who has been in Ireland for just two years have won the BT Young Scientist of the year 2007. His security code breaker won the administration of the judges:

His complex maths project impressed the judges who described as "remarkable" his command and insight into cutting-edge mathematics.

Abdi Mohamed Kusow is a Somali scholar and writer.

Kusow studied at Michigan State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1990. He later earned a Master of Urban Planning (M.U.P.) from the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning in 1992. He also holds a Ph. D. in sociology from Wayne State University (Dissertation, 1998 :"Migration and Identity process among Somali Immigrants in Canada").

Kusow is currently an Associate Professor of Sociology at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.

Amina Said Ali is a Somali author, poet, and medical scientist at the Karolinska Institute, in Stockholm, Sweden.
She was on a roundtable at the "Somalis in America Conference", 2004.
She is on the Advisory Board of Bildhaan.

Warsame Ali (born in Mogadishu, 1955) is a Somali scientist and assistant professor at Prairie View A&M University, specialized in aerospace technology. He has previously worked for NASA.

Ali graduated from the Somali National University, and in 1986, earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree at the King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. He received his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) and doctorate degrees in the United States, where he joined Prairie View A&M University as a researcher and eventually a professor. ali also has a summer program for middle school children.

Warsame co-founded the Somali Development Foundation, which has established the University of Gedo in Somalia.

With the exception of warfa.......Why do they all look weird>??? OR is it that i am not used to looking at 'actually' well educated looking somali brethrem?. They are all missing something that is prevalent in typical somalis face or countenance. Something about their know how - look and this calm, none knife threatening typical loud mali look. Good for them! :clap:


PS: Is it me or are most of the people listed above hartis and hawiye? :clap:

Btw I heard that young scientist of the year winner has an Irish dad is this true

According to his WIKI and the newspaper which he was featured in.. His father is IRISH :shock:
Even though he has only been living in Ireland for 2 years (he moved str8 from Somalia) :|
