The Swedish Parliament was officially opened october 5, 2010, by His Majesty The king . This election is special for many young people in Sweden. One of the newly elected Member of the Swedish Parliament is Amir Adan. It is a historic day for Somalis, African and immigrants in Sweden. Amir Adan is the youngest Member of the Swedish Parliament(MP) of African origin who has ever been elected in the Swedish Parliament and indeed throughout Europe. MP Amir Adan is born in Sweden but have his origin in Somaliland and Sweden. He has been involved in politics for many years. He has been active in the Conservative Party Youth League in Stockholm. He has also been a member of the District Administration Council in Vallingby-Hasselby (West Stockholm) for many years. The issues Amir Adan want to work with in the parliament include youth unemployment, integration and International Development Cooperation.

MP Amir Adan has visited Africa on several occasions. Most recently he was in Somaliland and Kenya 2009. In Somaliland, he visited the towns of Hargeisa, Berbera, Sheikh and Burao. During his visit to Hargeisa he met Somaliland Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr Abdirahman M Abdillahi and other high dignitaries of the Somaliland government and Business community. In Nairobi, Kenya Amir Adan met The Swedish Ambassador for Somali Peace process, Ambassador Göran Bjellerstedt, European Union (EU) Special Envoy For Somalia and The Republican Institute Representatives in Nairobi.

Amir Adan would like to congratulate the people of Somaliland for the good manner they conducted the presidential election in June 2010. The presidential election in Somaliland is indeed a good example for the whole of Africa. Amir Adan hope that Somaliland continues the democratic way they have chosen and institution building. MP Amir Adan plan to visit Somaliland next year to explore the ways in which Sweden can support Somaliland's democracy and development.
