Its a women's party usually 7 days after the mahar, ladies come to put a shaah over the brides head. They all come with a shash each(mostly the elderly women such as the hooyoyin and their friend & relatives) and they perform baranbuur and the shaashsaar. They put the shaash on top of the girls head as they recite duco or amaan. Its very common, I think every couple from south that gets married does it, so if you marry a girl from south her family will definitely have one. I know this cause my mom is hawiye

The origins of the tradition is cause back in the days somalis used to believe girls should cover up when they get married, so after the mahar the ladies get her shaash to cover her hair. I think its pointless but its away of them to celebrate the girls marriage and an excuse to party.
