This picture to me represents Somaliland in a nutshell. There are deep inequalities between the have and have-nots. There is even a UN car in there.

It shows the living conditions of the displaced. It shows the tolerance of the host nation. It shows the arrogance of somali politics. These displaced people will never be given their true status as refugees so long as they are seen ar internally displaced and hence your picture.

Mind you, Jamac, the miskeen have no ownership of property. As you can see, the area with the makeshift houses is already sized up. The owners of that land have leased it to the poor for the time being. Very soon they will be evicted. The increase in land prices is extraordinary in some parts of Somaliland.

If the true be told I no longer give loose change to Miskiin people. Giving money to people is directly responsible for this culture of dependence. These people need to fed for themselves. Those that beg are usually the refugees and the people with disabilities.

People here are innovative and will make ways to earn a living. There is a man with a weight scale in the market. He charges people to see their weight.

This is the affluent suburb of Jigjiga yare. This area is mostly settled by expatriates, local NGO workers and Somali disapora.
