Actually the two generals/conolels behind the 1969 Coup D'etat were Hawiye and Isaaq, Major General Salaad Gabeyre Kediye (hawiye), and General Aynashe (isaaq) led the coup. Said Barre was just sitting and waiting in the interior ministers house, while these guys planned, and executed it brilliantly, he couldn't do it without these guys. Gabeyre was subsequently named the "Father of the Revolution", and Barre became the head of the Supreme Revolutionary Council. but because Said Barre was threatened that they will over take the party, he executed them after two years.

Was he in charge of the interior ministry? Nasser and Saddam Hussein were in charge of the interior ministries at the time of coup/revolution, in charge of the police and secret service.

and why were they against the government?

Oh yea, I meant Ayanshe, korshel him self was born in Somaliland, that is why thought he was the one.

Qorsheel is a somalilander he is warsangali

Yeah he took over in '54 , but he was pulling the strings before, when you pay the army and secret service you have all the power.

because there was too much corruption and nepotism in the civilians government, and the civilian government lost Ogaden region to Ethiopia and NFD to kenya under their watch, the military decided to step in and take over.
also Somalia had about 90 parties (tribal parties) running for elections and ppl were Buying the votes of other clans.

Thats why I dont understand why people say he created mistrust amongst clans, people only trusted their sub-sub-clans, they still do

Nasir paid the army, from where? I don't think he had that power not until the monarchy was over and the free officers revolted! But yeah he was pulling the strings for Naguib, i agree.

well even though the civilian government was corrupted, one thing good about it was freedom of speech, ppl openly opposed the government, and media such as national journals sometimes criticized the government. but after Said Barre there was no freedom of speech, if you criticize, you were dubbed as anti-kacaan and prisoned or killed.
now, Said Barre wasn't fully tribalism until late 70s early 80s, when he only trusted his closest relatives and kin, but before in 1977, he tried to stop tribalism and sometimes even went as long as burying and ephagy of tribalism.

I meant when the Free Officers took over in July, he was given the interior ministry (I think). I had a class on Nasser and Pan-Arabism today
