This article from 10 years ago states that Damal was a tough competitor of Daallo. The article also states Damal's excellent structure and its expansion plans. Does the airline still exist or were they bought out? They used to operate in Dubai alongside Daallo which leads me to believe that Arabs bought them out as they did with Daallo. This may have stopped the Somali diaspora from returning to the country and frightened away international investors, but it has left the door open to two indigenous carriers to act as a lifeline to the businessmen and travellers who keep Somalia fed and watered while the north of the country successfully pieces itself together. Somaliland's Daallo Airlines and Puntland's Damal Airlines have become businesses to be reckoned with.

Re: What happened to Damal Airlines?
It belonged to a good family friend of ours by the name Khalif Cise Mudan.
He currently owns a number of businesses including Mudan Airlines and Panorama Hotel in Bosaso.
Damal ceased business operations due to issues with haji flights, a few years later Khalif Mudan started Mudan Airlines which mainly goes between Dubai and Puntland. Its also one of the main carriers used by NGO in Somalia and he made a lot of money flying UN and other organisation while Abdullahi Yusuf was president.
