The event flopped, blame the organizers, no biggie. This was weird though;

this “disconnect” in the Muslim community regarding the issue of domestic violence and the sometimes view that it is more an African American Muslim issue than a general one.

I don't think it was the organizers but the general public. A lot of people chose to either blind themselves or just don't care at all, and that is the problem. What other communities rally for, we just simply don't care. Its pretty sad and pathetic.

They should write to the churches to get money to run the shelter. I am sure they will donate all the money that is needed to keep the shelter open.

Women dont usually go to conferences alone, and it sounds like the event was geared toward females. Why don't they bring the issue up in the masajid. Get Imams from all over the place to give a jum'ah khutbah on the same day and collect money afterwards rather than getting them to leave their congregations behind and travel to the venue. I don't see how that helps if you're really trying to raise awareness.

as muslim our HQ is da masjid they should bring this issues to da masjid then pple will collect money...plus they can get more money if they just write a letter to da islamic bank or go to da khaleej...those pple are good on charity wallah..they being keeping somalia on life support
