Education is the way forward and no sheik has the right to restrict or place a burden on the young. The islamic community either provide an alternative or keep their mouths shut on the issue of student loans.

The harm to oneself from lack of education outweights the risks of a loan if no alternative is available in order to engage with the dictates of the education funding.

Don't you know that riba is a major sin?

I agree with Hyperactive, don't spend on things you can't afford. Save your money and then pay for it.

Easy for you to say since you got a scholship, not everybody has a government willing to hand out freebies and not everybody has a trust fund, the rest of us make do with what we have.

Do you have any idea how long it would take the average person without a degree and probably on minimun wage to save £13,580 for just the fees, minus accommodation, minus living expenses, minus books and God forbid you want to do medicine or become a lawyer and God forbid you're starting uni in 2012 and potentially paying £6,000 a year  No one gets student loan because they love the idea of being in debt. Like Cirwaq said find a viable solution then feel free to critisize, otherwise let people do what they must. Allah is the judge.

you have a point there, if every one does their share life would be easier. some parents can safe money for their kids years before they go to university, if they spend wisely.

but when you living on student loan and drive a decent car that's wrong. you've to be very very poor and take a bus and just wear one pair of jeans and 1 t-shirt every day. that i call necessarily.

The Prohibition of Riba Part 1 to part 14 is the best lecture I have listened to on Riba period. This sheikh may god reward him for his good work does an amazing job giving a well rounded lesson on the issue.

A must listen to for anyone that really wants to learn about Riba and it's fate.

thank you for posting it.
but what i always argue with my father is: the problem is not only people or companies who uses people need to make wealth by sucking hard working people's money.
but those people take these loans, whether car loan, house mortgage or even furniture, that they couldnt pay for it cash or didn't save it. come on it's all showing off to others.
it's not life saving issue.

people need to learn/educated having $500 000 home mortgage isn't necessary.

Shouldn't that mean that, like everything in life, if you can't afford it just don't do it?

pb, or to go cheaper university or job training instead going for thousands of dollarscost schools that give you more pristige or more money in the future? !!
ibn aljeran mo a7san mini, walla ibnal 3am. :)

you know what, we're programmed that going to university is necessary not the getting knowledge it self.
again people you work for, need proof of your study, paper for that matter, and they dont give you without paying thousands and thousands.

life for students is hard, dont you agree? lol

our granfathers didnt need to pay to be a sheikhs, you know!! they had it easy.
