Is any foreign intervention in Somalia

Post by ArcadeFire »

doomed to fail?? It seems the obvious answer is yes, but why? UNOSOM I and II, Restore Hope, Amxaaro (intervention, not humanitarian though), AMISOM, all of them failed to bring Somalia back from failed state status, but why?

The British in Sierra Leone and Kosovo managed to intervene in civil wars and bring both countries back from the brink, Tony Blair is a hero in both countries. How come Somali's resisted interventions, particularly those in the 1990's?

I think if people do not trust one another nothing holds firm.

Far too complex... Also the strategy is always the same attempting to revive the republic instead of first focusing on koonfur, infact mainly just moqadishu that is not making much progress even with 8000 fufus.

Let us see perhabs this new team will maintain focus primarily in koonfur affairs.

isnt einstien that said, the defenition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting different results...

how many peace conferences have we had now?

15 ,16? 17 ive lost count and they are all the same...

pack a few hundred political prostitutes i,e (representatives of the somali people, parlaimentarians without a constituency)
put them up in a foriegn country preferable IGAD, Addis Ababa, Djibouti, Kenya ..
Spend fukloads of money on thier hotel bills, qaad sessions etc etc..
and then come up with a TFG, after all the haggling behind closed doors and the approval of Ethiopia, or the arab league
or whoever is footing the bill for this great party.......

The solution is obvious, it has been since 1991...

the somaliland model.. it works , it takes months, involves thousands of delegates of every tiny subclan, and personality, but its low budget.

Gurey,

I think the situation in Somalia today is much less complex than the situation in SL under their crazy moryaan, they had incredibly valuable resources to fight over, wtf are they fighting for in Somalia today? :?

Their militias were disturbingly motivated, even though they werent fighting for religion nor country, to the extent that they hacked off the arms of every voter :o

The average Shabaab recruit would switch sides if the TFG could guarantee wages and victory, and they claim to be fighting for diinta :|

And there is only one major faction left in Somalia today, with limited domestic support and surprisingly little manpower, if they met a well trained army they could be easily defeated.

UNOSOM was initially welcomed by Somali's, but that was at the beginning of the war, now people are acclimatised to the present state, thats probably the only reason why intervention would be resisted today.

Forget foreign intervention, what Somalia really needs is a charismatic ruthless politician who will do the dirty deed needed to sort thing out. Somalis are easily content with work & decent lifestyle. I say give it 3 yrs and Somalis shall have their wish come true!

There needs to be an actual invasion, not the silly "peace keeping". Al Shabab and all its militia can be destroyed within 48 hours if there was a full scale invasion by a powerful country.

Because at least then the radicalism associated with Somalia will subside. I'd much rather have us known as the chaotic land of pirates than an international hot bed for terrorism.

Foreigners are the problem in Somalia and you think they will be a solution? Come one sis. Somalia should be left alone and it will fix its problems.
