Erigab, Puntland, Somalia (AHN) - At least one aid worker has been killed and two others injured after unknown assailants armed AK-47 rifles attacked aid workers from the Horn Relief aid organization in Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland state, an official said Sunday.

The attack took place in the village of Afka Siib about 30 KM from Laskoray district in Sanag region of Puntland.

Yusuf Jama’ Debed, Puntland’s Laskoray district commissioner told the local media that the assailants stole about $30,000 from the Horn Relief and Qaran Express Bank after the killing.

Mr. Debed said Qaran and Horn Relief were distributing money among internally displaced people in the village Afka Siib.

“The distribution of the money were involved them (Qaran and Horn Relief) to give out IDPs in three villages in Puntland’s Sanag region” said Debed.

The thieves fled the scene according to the district commissioner.
