Kambuli and Co,
Can you define "qowsaar" for me, what does it mean exactly, and can you put it in a sentence. Thanks.

Re: Af Somali experts please come in.
Qosaar wuxuu aha odey magaciis. Qolooyinka hoose ee ilma aragtiga ah ayuu saari jiray. Weedha hadaad yara calaliso oo ma jiirto waxay dhadhami yaraha qalinsaar, qooqsaar, qorisaar, iyo qoorsaar. Qoor saar waa macnaha laftiga ah!

Re: Af Somali experts please come in.
Qowsaar is a man who takes care of the livestock and milks them for the family. He gets paid salary or something arranged for that kind of work. My Neighbours in Boondheere used to employ one back in childhood years.

It is not Geel raac alone, Qowsaar can tend to any livestock and still be Qowsaar. I am not sure they were all fools. They did it because that is what they knew how to do best.

Ciyal,
and why you say dabal, isn't the camel something loved in the Somali culture? Thus, it should imply a positive meaning rather than what you are saying or am I missing something here?

Qowsaar is a camel herder and in urban cities he is viewed as someone who lacks culture & civilized manners.
It can also be used as an insult against someone who's seen as a loser or unaccomplished. Mostly used for men, but in rare cases, it can be used for women as well.

So basically it means servant, I thought it meant slave before, but wasn't sure, thanks all.
P.s..someone was talking about how they used to have qowsaar, but didn't get a chance to ask for more details, and had no clue what it meant, but it sounded like a slave to me.
