Al Shabab's Drought Relief Program
I am waiting to see the huge food distribution plans and drought relief programs to be implemented by Al Shabab to the areas they control. I am sure that Shabab managed to store the 'bumper crops' from last year to feed all of those starving people in Shabab held areas. Will Usama send shiploads of grain and food to help out his stooges in Somalia ?
It sucks to be in Shababistan knowing that food aid is being burned right in front of you.

This was only last Month, TFG will sacrifice the population to make it seem someone else is causing their death and starvation!

Re: Al Shabab's Drought Relief Program
Cirwaaq,
The TFG did not burn food aid. Hundreds of people flee into TFG zones to get relief aid. The Minister withdrew his threat and didn't act on it.
Its a well known fact Shabab hates NGOs and is looking to drive them out either by force or huge taxation. This works well for them because they make the population solely dependent on them for everything yet Shabab can't provide food like WFP.

Re: Al Shabab's Drought Relief Program
Food aid is the biggest scam ever perpetrated by the west. All the food has to be grown in the western country of origin (so half the money is actually an agricultural subsidy pretending to be foreign aid), and shipped by that country of origin as well, over half the cost of food aid goes into the pockets of western shipping companies, distribution companies, etc.
And to top it all off, the aid organizations are corrupt as hell, so most of that food unloaded from the dock ends up on the back of some truck and resold, so it doesn't even feed starving people who, if they could afford to buy food at the market, would have already done so.
I don't blame al-Shabaab for ending the practice, but they should have their own program to feed the starving.

James,
Its a scam but how can the burning of WFP food be justified when there starving people looking on. Shabab has no alternative nor capacity to feed these people.
There is a major bone between the pragmatists like Abu Mansuur who realize that there is a need for aid agencies and the purists like Godane who don't.

Re: Al Shabab's Drought Relief Program
The people who die in the drought will be a drop in the bucket compared to the number of people who will die when Kenya invades Jubbaland. I remember what happened in 2007 when hundreds of thousands starved to death on the road from Mogadishu to Afgoi, where they didn't even have a tree to lie underneath, let alone food. The TFG had full control of the whole area at the time and it would have required no effort at all to feed and house all those people, they did not give a damn.AbdiWahab252 wrote:James,

If aid agencies gave a damn about Somalis they would work with al-Shabaab to feed the starving, but heaven forbid "the Turrurists" have a say in anything.

Wasn't there a claim that shabab only burned expired goods that were intended for distribution?AbdiWahab252 wrote:James,

Besides the TFG can easily request air drops if they have no excess via road... Nooh?
If there was a will there would be a way?
Does anyone have a map or a list of location where there is shortage of food?

Food security is linked more closely with peaceful areas with strong governments. Areas where fighting is and has taken place are more indicative of food insecurity from looking at the map.
Conflict and hunger go hand in hand.

Re: Al Shabab's Drought Relief Program
AW The areas with the least food shortages are puntland, somaliland and shabab controlled terrirory sorry dude... the drought is in central states.
TFG cannot claim they have no access to Galmudug to galkacio soo you stand corrected chap. TFG will be held responsible if they fail to act in a region that is shabab free.

Re: Al Shabab's Drought Relief Program
Yeah AW the worst areas are in ASWJ territories, and I don't think the TFG or foreign aid agencies can be depended on. It's entirely due to the bad rains in the central regions.
Somalis in the west could raise money to buy food and ship it to Galmudug and Ximan&Xeeb where the local authorities can distribute it to the needy, that will be most effective.
