Al-shabab officers jailed in Galgudud region

MOGADISHU – At least 3 of the high officers of Al-shabab fighters of Galgudud region in central Somalia have been jailed in Elder district in the region after they were accused of committing banditry action happened there on Friday.

Elders of the town said that Sheikh Khada who was Al-shabab’s commissioner of Elder district in the region accompanying by two other officers of the group were arrested in a jail shortly after the fighters conducted operations at Mazagawa area in the region.

Sources confirmed that the men were captured as they were stealing $9,677.42 that was attended to be supported to the drought affected people in the region.

It is unclear where they would be brought before a court or not, but the arrest seems to be the first such step taken against Al-shabab officers in central Somalia as most of the people in the region surprised.

There had been more people died for thirst and droughts that hit in south and central Somalia as Al-shabab fighters refused aid agencies to operate in the area under their control and help the people in Somalia.
