ONLF: We have killed over 3000 Ethiopian troops in 2010

Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) on Sunday vowed that it will keep up its fight against the Ethiopian government.

In an interview, Hussein Mohammed Nur, ONLF’s head of information, told a local radio station that the front held a meeting in Asmara to discuss the successes of the rebel group.

Nur stated that the meeting was part of the front’s annual conference in an effort to increase attacks to liberate the mainly ethnic Somali region in eastern Ethiopia.

“The officials of Ogaden National Liberation Front agreed to continue their battles and struggles against Ethiopia,” Nur said.

He claimed the group had killed 3,000 Ethiopian in 2010 battles.

Ethiopia has designated the ONLF as a terrorist group, saying it has links with Eritrea.

For its part, ONLF charges Ethiopia routinely commits mass killings against Somalis in the Ogaden region.

No statements about the ONLF claims were immediately available from the Ethiopian government.

In November, the rebel group claimed Ethiopian military forces killed 235 Somali civilians. Ethiopian officials dismissed the claim.

ONLF split into two factions after some of its members signed a pact with Ethiopia last month. The government said the peace deal was aimed at ending 20 years of war with a guerilla faction that has been fighting for liberation of the Ogaden region.

Neither is an option

There is no integrating in Ethiopia since there is ethnic federalism. Also Muslims Somalis cannot adapt the Christian Ethiopian way, its haram.The elite are dominated by 6% Tigray. They control everything from the military to the economy. They haven’t even allowed slave Oromos or Amharas in their enclosed circle, so Somalis have no chance.

It has happened numerous times and it will happen again. Throughout the world minority rule has always fallen. The ONLF are doing a great job so far, SPLM in South Sudan or EPLF in Eritrea neither did any of your recommendations but rather used force with avail.

If casualty statistics won wars, Vietnam would be an overseas territory of the USA.

Ogaden only make up about half of the Somalis in Somali Galbeed, and the other clans are more worried about Ogaden dominance than Tigrai dominance.

The way to win independence for Somali Galbeed would be to create a pan-Somali organization including all the clans under Ethiopian occupation.

Ethiopia has succeeded in exploiting the clan divisions, and most of the troops that fight the ONLF are probably Somalis drawn from Isaaq or Bartire.
