Gara Man and James Dahl come in
Inform me more about the Akishe tribes of Ethiopia. I hear many Oromos mentioning that the Akishe clan are originally Oromo. I want to verify if this is true since I myself have Akishe blood.

Re: Gara Man and James Dahl come in
Do you have any information in regards to Akishe and Jaarso my good brother?
Re: Gara Man and James Dahl come in
Just playing.
Akishe or Akichuu are weird ones. There is evidence of them being Somalis or Oromos.
About the arguement of them being Oromo, the story goes something like this. First around harar they was the Afran Qallo confederation that consisted of Ala, Noole, Jaarso, and Babile. When they converted to Islam they replaced this with a Sufi Jamaa, but shortly after the abysisnians invaded and after defeating the Harar Armies the first order of business was to degrade humilate the neighboring Oromos and that including the Sufi Jamaa. When destroying it and bannng it completly some sheihk of Akichuu migrated eastward into Somaliland. When there were still pockets of remnants of oromo living he saw a scramble to assimilate those oromo remnants by somalis into their clan. The shiekh saw this and challenged the issaq Ulema with Islamic creed. The issaqs had no answer for him and ruled he was right about the oromo stranglers. He eventually came to assimilate those Oromos into his clan and existed for a time but there was a difficulty for colonialists for who is to rule over them. Since the italians and british had agreements over eachother to what somali clan they rule over the akichuu were a problem. However in the end, the akichuu eventually became somalis due to living so close to them.
I read this story from some shit book and really question the actualality of it ever happening because there are stories that they are assimilated somlais in Oromos. They could of been of the caste of orginal somalis that existed in Nothern Somalia.
but if you ask James he will probaly give the Dir abtirsi or something.

Re: Gara Man and James Dahl come in
Akishe or Akichuu is the nickname for Maxamuud Cali Madaxweyne Dir.
The invented son of Dir for Afran Qaloo is "Qaldho" Dir. Akishe on the other hand had the opposite, they were adopted into Barentuma but are genealogically Dir.
There are quite a few clans that straddle the line with membership in both Oromo and Somali clans.

Re: Gara Man and James Dahl come in
their close relatives the Gurgara were the elder clan and the leaders of all DIR which basically means most somalis. Today they are semi-oromosized
The Akiisho are further along the lines of oromosization, well atleast the part that lives in the western regions.
A gurgura guy told me something strange, he claims that my clan biciide habar jeclo are long lost gurgura.
He reasons that since their ancestral lands correspond today exactly to current biciide territories and since biciide is one of the major clans of gurgura we are one and the same.
Fortunatly this is not true becuase my ancester was born in the 1620's, and 90% of our cdurrent land was formerly Dhulbahante before 1870.
The entire musa abokar didnt leave the coasts till the 1550's and only then did we move to the mountains of sanaag.
Another thing, araweelo is said to be akiisho , do the Oromos have the same story or tradition?

Re: Gara Man and James Dahl come in
Akichu are a federation of Oromo and somali- thats my best opinion. And James i dont believe in that abtirsi when Oromos and Somalis both conduct assimilation regularly.
And gurey your gonna have to ask Bareento about that dont knoe to much about that. I have seen some things on Oromoindex.

Gurey, yes indeed we do have a myth close to the somali Arawello.
We call her Moote Qorke among the Afran Qallo.
Oral story places her kingdoms some where in North Somalia.
In fact this myth is common to all people of the horn that some call "kushit"" (i hate the word): gedeo, sidama, all oromo clans etc...
with different name. (same similarities u find about the arab shekh landing on a tree for somali , or the Oromo Qallu who fell
from sky and land on a tree or the Afar etc..
As for the Akichu and some other oromo clans living in North Somalia: they r the remnants of the oromo presence in north somalia.
besides their clan names r all oromo.
Its believed that they were part of Jarso.
Gurguras who speak Oromo for enerations have somali clan names whereas akichus who speak somali for generations have oromo clan names.

How do you separate the types of names though? There are many names that are both Somali and Oromo names.

Re: Gara Man and James Dahl come in
Because I speak both languages
James, when a tribe has a name starting with warra its a sign a its an oromo name;
warra corresponds to the somali "reer".
There r a lot of common clan names...for intance u find a lot of "warra miyo" its common clan name among east oromos.
Here r the name Akichu clans as stated in Wiki , all r oromo clan names.
Whats funny ,as usual with oromo clan names and land naming, is u find the same clans current day North Somalia and North Wallo:
similarity in clan names : Azaboo in wallo and Asaaboo in Akichu
Wucaalee in Wallo and Wachaalee in Gadabursi land
The Akisho (Gurre) clan consists of 12 major subclans:
Waro-Miyo
Waro-Bito
Waro-Dayo
Waro-Luujo
Waro-Ito
Waro-Kiyo
Waro-Heebaan (Curad Akisho)
Waro-Kurto
Obo
Igo
Asaabo
Eejo

Oromo type names are common amongst the Madaxweyne Dir, like Warday Cali Madaxweyne Dir or Gariire Cali Madaxweyne Dir for instance. (Warday is Warra Dayya).

Re: Gara Man and James Dahl come in
There are many Wardays (Actually Daayyo), there are 2 Daayyo in the first two generations of Madaxweyne Dir alone. Daayyo was a popular name it seems.bareento wrote:James![]()

There is Reer (Warra) Daayyo Maxamuud Cali Madaxweyne, and Warday (Warra Daayyo) Cali Madaxweyne.
The other Warday, Warra Daaya Orma Booraana, may possibly be related to the Digil and Mirifle, if Orma Booraana is the same person as Amarre Saabe. Orma Booraana are of the Sabbo moiety so it's possible. That's just a possible theory, though it could be tested with genetics.

u can see them in Kenya they violently reject being called warday and stick to orma ! who recognise them as kin.
James, in somali genealogy DIR is like an old entity no one knows exacyly wat it contains and every puts in every thing unknown thing to them.
some even incorporate my own clan Qal'o in it
I am 100% sure warday has nthg to do with dir or somali.
they r orma's defeated and incorporated in somalidom as clients!
check google book its a well documented painful episode
