I came across it some years ago...

When you study the somali language and how there are dozens of words that describe the same thing... makes one wonder how many different languages may have actually been married together to form the somali we speak today???

Considering in any given land size on earth comparable to somaliweyn there are or were hundreds if not thousands of different languages... The invention of Nomads... Farmers who settle don't need a unified language

i think the many words show how important camels are to somalis. look at all the poems written about camels. the words we imported or borrowed were for things that were unfamiliar to us like ice or cars.

Somalinet is a good enclyclopedia. Someone asked me the meaning of Haanneed and it led me to this topic when I tried to cheat by googling it. I am surprised advo started it though.
