Somaliland: Ministry of Finance Collects Record Revenue from

HARGEISA (SomalilandPress)–The new government of President Ahmed Siilanyo has brought in the highest revenue collected from the country’s customs and duties. This comes after the Ministry of Finance was able to collect a record high 24.3% increase from December 2009 when previous government of President Dahir Riyale was in office compare to December 2010 when the incumbent government is in office. SomalilandPress was able to obtain financial audit from the Ministry of Finance indicating this increase of revenue from all the customs of the country, from Berbera Port to Sool. This change comes after President Siilanyo named Engineer Mohamed Hashi Elmi as the Minister of Finance.

Once Minster Elmi took office he began to reshuffle all the custom officers and named a young man name Ali-Dhagoole with an extensive knowledge of operation the Managing Director of the customs. Minster Elmi also put in place a check and balance system in which all custom offices can be audited. This new increase of revenue coming into the treasure vault is now allowing the government to give wage raises to the armed forces.
