Pencil skirt and Hijab ?

Post by LegalEagle »

Are they compatible?

So, today I had an interview today and in the office I saw a hijabi wearing a knee length pencil skirt with opaque tights. First I was in a bit of shock, and then I made the judgement that she was just defeating the object of wearing the scarf, the two just don't go together! Then I looked down at myself in my fitted tailored trouser suit, and actually realised that there probably wasn't any difference between what I was wearing and the sister in the skirt. It showed my shape off as much as the sister's.

Was I alone in thinking that short skirts were a lot worse than trousers?

I always thought that trousers were the more modest option of the two, but after seeing the sister I don't actually see any difference. Although what I do know is that my family would have a lot more to say about the pencil skirt than they do at the moment with the trousers lol.

But what I really want to know is what do you wear in the office? or plan to wear?

I've always worn trousers, the only skirts I wear are ankle length.

I once saw a hijabi wearing a knee length skirt with knee length boots which I thought was a bit odd, maxaa ka darneed though one who was just wearing a short skirt with a hijaab, no tights, no boots, just the skirt, her skin and the hijaab.

Ofcourse they are not compatible, neither should you be wearing tight trousers. Women are more attractive than men, so if a women does herself up then the affects are noticed or felt more than a men trying to attract attention. I don't know which one is worse, everybody has their views on this, but what matters is the judgement of Allah swt. Lets not forget though with men, you don't necessarily see Islam but with women if they are wearing the hijab, bang that is Islam, especially if the person is aware of her wearing it because 'she is a Muslim.'

I think, we should all be careful of what we say and we attest to follow, because humans are judgemental and they judge according to what they see. If they always see Somalis being anti-social, then they will lump all Somalis as anti-social, if all they keep seeing is muslim females with hijab helping people, being kind, quite and respectful then they'll think good of muslim hijabis, and that is how it is in this World.

Do you know see why scholars of Islam have in the past and future stressed on the importance of manners?

Yeah bare legs are a step too far for me. So how come you always go for trousers?

Yeah I guess they're as bad as each other.

I don't really see the relevance of manners to this topic unless i'm completely missing the point...

There was a time I used to wear skirts and dresses. I stopped wearing skirts when they decided to make them too tight and formed a heart shape when I wore them, but I also noticed during the summer or if you're in a very bright place they were very transparent that you can make everything out underneath. I stopped wearing them and started wearing those maxi dresses, turns out; they’re just as bad as the skirts. So, now all I wear is abayat.

You've definetly got to be careful with the maxi dresses, some do give coverage but most of them don't.

Do you wear your abaya to work?

Yeah, most of them are transparent or cling to your skin.

Yes, I wear them to work. And i gotta say, the abayats are becoming too revealing themselves. :?

Everytime I picture the cabaya, that video of the nairobi girls doing bendova dance comes to mind.

lakinse I must say there's a different between tight pants and loose pants, I have seen plenty of hijaabi girls with loose pants dressed moderately because of the other attires like long jacket etc.

Manners are important too! I'd rather one doesn't point out they are muslim if they have disgraceful manners. Especially for ladies, when they were hijab they should beaware of their manners too.

Yeah, I think that is modest too.

I wear the abaya mostly, but men these days don't care because again they have seen ladies wearing the abayah and acting contrary to how they should be.

What has the way men dress got to do with this? You can wear anything you want as long as the naval to knees are covered.

I don't wear pencil skirts much. I have a cute brown one and it's in my closet collecting dust, I still think they're cute but not my style 100%!

Dude, I went to Banadir Mall 3-4 yrs ago to pay some old lady off cuz my mom told me to and I saw a girl wearing jilbaab with jeans. Keep in mind, the jilbaab is long enough to cover your ass. Why the fuccccccccccck would you wear jeans if you're going for the jilbaab look? :|

Just more comfortable in them, especially at work. I have never come across a skirt that is long enough and professional enough to wear to an office.

I think the same, if you're going for the hijaab, wear it properly, if you want to wear short dresses or skirts then you might as well take the headscarf off.
