SOMALI Sheriff deputy in LA shot in the face

EAST LOS ANGELES ( KTLA) -- Authorities say a shootout near City Terrace Tuesday night left an L.A. County Sheriff's deputy in critical condition and a reputed gang member dead.

Deputy Mohammed Ahmed was with his partner on patrol when they saw a person acting suspicious in a parked car on North Brannick Avenue, near Floral Drive.

A struggle ensued and that's when the suspect -- a gang member on parole -- opened fire and shot Ahmed in the face, officials said.
