MOGADISHU, - Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region has barred central government officials from entering its territory, an official said, as a row between Puntland and the capital Mogadishu escalated.
Puntland officials said the ban extended to all lawmakers and civil servants, a week after declaring it would not cooperate with the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) until the establishment of what it described as a legitimate and representative federal government.
"We have notified all our immigration departments and airports that TFG officials were banned from inside our territory," Puntland's deputy Interior Minister Ali Gab Yusuf told reporters over the weekend.
Somalia has been mired in conflict and awash with weapons since the downfall of a dictator 20 years ago. The Horn of Africa nation has become a haven for foreign jihadists bent on striking the region's main economies, security experts say.
Puntland accuses the United Nations-backed government of failing to honour the terms of the 2008-09 Djibouti peace process which created the TFG.
Under the terms of the accord, the interim government's mandate expires in August this year. By then it should have enacted a new basic law and held general elections. Most political analysts say it will probably fail to do either.
There was no immediate government reaction to the travel ban. Some legislators urged the Somali government and Puntland's administration to resolve the brewing dispute.
"Puntland is a part of Somalia and it has no right to make such an announcement," said lawmaker Abdirahman Ali, who was born and has family in Puntland.
But he added: "While Puntland's statement is unfortunate, President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed's government has failed to show the consideration and cooperation Puntland deserves."

Foreigners from lower Somalia (both figuratively and literally) must apply for a travel visa when their "government" officials want to visit Puntland
To be fair, we'll apply for travel visa's when we wanna visit the kilometer and a half they control in Xamar too.

Siren,
No, I am trying to support the Kashmiris in Xamar. The poor chaps have no place to go: they can't travel to Puntland or Somaliland nor their homeland.
Yungfresh,
I support the PL position
Faroole is doing great things
I now think the TFG needs to do what he wants, deport all politicians from PL from TFG territory to Faroole, remove all PLs in the TFG both inside Somalia and in overseas posts, order all NGOs, and donor aid groups to stop talking directly with any nonTFG entities about Somalia programs.

Re: Somalidiids Threaten Government Officials
Hold your hutu horses homey, what makes you think you're in a position to order anybody to stop talking to non The-Fake-Government entities?!
You gotta have some sort of influence to do that...the TFG is the government of a few buildings and is barely clinging to life by a thread, which is gonna be cut off soon by a swift slice of Al-Shabaab's sword. Besides, the Obama administration already said they're gonna work closer with Puntland separately cuz it's clear the deadbeats down South ain't saying much. Now that we're distancing ourselves from you lifetime losers, we're gonna start talking with donor aid agencies directly cuz we're clearly the only productive people (you guys barely qualify as people, xoolo yihiin) in the region

Besides, HG is now irrelevant in Somalia...I'd advise you to forget about the TFG and focus your energy on developing Galmudug

Yungfresh,
I support Faroole
The Americans are blowing smoke up your arses. They are committed more to the TFG than any bantustan for the sole reason that a collapse of the TFG will only enable the quick and rapid take over of the land by Shabab. The sand castle called PL will be swept to the side by the insurgents once the Shabab decapitate the TFG.
The only victims of Faroole are those politicians who originate from PL
Its time that those PL politicians speak and indicate whom the people of PL support: Somalidiids or Somaliweyn ?

Faroole needs to decide on one theme, one day he talks about hosting an all inclusive Somali conference, and making Garowe the heart of Somali weyn and the next day he sounds like a soft core secessionist talking about TFG officials cant come here.but then again,Shariff huto throws under the belt punches at bintiland the whole time.so its all fair and square

Naaah, I'm not worried about Al-Shabaab....we have ASWJ and Galmudug as a buffer between us, and you guys will finally have some meaningful purpose as cannon fodderAbdiWahab252 wrote:Yungfresh,

True, the Americans have a vested interest in Somalia not becoming overrun by Al-Shabaab, but they see that the current leadership in Xamar is incompetent and unable to extend it's influence past the local convenience store. They're beginning to turn more and more of their resources towards ensuring Puntland, a hub of stability and progress, remains stable and outside the sphere of influence of the bearded lunatics. The US has as much reason to ensure Puntland remains stable cuz of the whole piracy crisis, and ensuring "Al-Shabaab terrorists" don't breach into Puntland is only more incentive for them to work closer with Puntland. With any luck, Shariif the tourist and his cohorts will be removed from office and replaced with a more competent, Majeerteen leadership.
Puntland cutting ties with the TFG is purely tactical...if we don't have a voice in the TFG working for our interests, then fuck it, we'll become our own voice.

A/Y killed the TNG and Now Faroole has put a sword in the TFG.
Xamar no more Somalia will be governed from Garowe, and the nawatdiid iyo Somalidiid will be dealt with. It's simple logic those that can govern themselves can govern others. As of today Puntland is the official government of Somalia.

Re: Somalidiids Threaten Government Officials
Puntland is wrong in imposing travel restrictions on anyone period. Expressing disagreement over policy is one thing, but restricting travel for mps or anyone else for that matter is an unneccessary escaltion of animosity. Bad strategy!
