Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Baydhabo or Burco
Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Baydhabo or Burco; which is the largest taking into consideration land area as well as building density. I think Boosaaso, although not by much(?).
(1) Mogadishu
(2) Hargeisa
(3) Beledweyne
4. Boosaaso
5. Burco
6. Galkcayo
7. Baydhabo
But Boosaaso and Galkacayo, although having a large land area, are sparsely built up compared to Baydhabo or Burco.
What do ya'll think? Look into it and get back to me. And be sure to provide evidence, google satelite images and sources; cuz I know what ya'll are like; each promoting his city.

Re: Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Baydhabo or Burco
with 20 years of people fleeing that city how can it still have that much population, logically impossible,
mogadishu people were before the 90's 50%-40% hawiye and darood respectively and 10 % isaaq and the likes, after the war non hawiye left the city however, there places were quickly filled by people from baadiyaha, but even them had to flee for the safety of the kenyan refugee tents...and that has been going on for over almost 2 decades, and last couple of years reer hawiye found out about puntland and somaliland...several 100 thousands in those 2 regions.....mogadishu is pulling above expectations with a half a million......it is a fact mogadishu has been in decline for 2 decades with cities such as bosaso gaalkacyo hargeysa burco and baidhabo increasing annually
i actually believe the following list
size of city
1mogadishu
2hargeysa
3bosaso
however population wise
1hargeysa
2bosaso
3/4 baidhabo or mogadishu
5 gaalkacyo

Mogadishu is unrivalled in size. If peace returns to the city, the population will return and it will also pull population from other regions, so don't worry about Mogadishu; considering its land area and (potential and likely) population.
Just focus on the cities I mentioned. Justify your claims by backing them up with evidence; identify your sources. I see your going with Boosaaso and Galkacayo (unsurprisingly). Let's not make this another useless topic, so sxb keep this to the topic and give me from 4-7 from Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Burco and Baydhabo.

Re: Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Baydhabo or Burco
there are no facts in somalia, the only tool that can be used as none biased research method would be google earth at the moment...and if i am not mistaking on a scale of 1000 over 500 both bosaso and gaalkacyo are bigger than baydhabo....juzme123 wrote:Mogadishu is unrivalled in size. and when it comes to population
i am not even going to discus bosaso's status
however baydhabo might challenge gaalkacyo
biggest city in somalia is by far xamar second would be hargeysa
and the 3th position has clearly been taken by bosaso by force and its not negotiable ..the only other somali cities that would be able to fight for the 3th would be jigjiga or djibouty...and in 10 years time they will all be over taken including xamar by nairobi .in terms of somali cities in sizes ....
Re: Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Baydhabo or Burco
U GUYS AR PROBAB;Y ON CRACK..GOOGLE MAP EARTH IS A GOOD INDICATION....BURCO IS BIGGER POPULATION THAN BOSSASSO
Re: Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Baydhabo or Burco
So far we're agreed.whitehartlane wrote:

I have to add that, although you ignore it, it is clear (from google maps; which is what we've got to work with) that Beledweyne is the third largest city. so (1) Mog. (2) Harg. (3) Beled; this is indisputable. What made you think Boosaaso is larger than Beledweyne

Since when is nairobi a Somali city?whitehartlane wrote:and in 10 years time they will all be over taken including xamar by nairobi .in terms of somali cities in sizes ....

Baydhabo is the smallest of the cities I think we agree on that. Boosaaso is larger in area than the other cities i mentioned; but it is sparsely built up.
Galkacyo may, only just, be bigger than burco but it is sparsely built up. Therfore I would have to say:
(4) Bosaaso (but sparsely built up so not much larger than burco

(5) Burco (relatively, only just, smaller land area than, but densely built up)
(6) Galkacayo (sparsely built up, but large land area so not much smaller than Burco)
(7) Baydhabo (the smallest city out of these four)

Re: Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Baydhabo or Burco
since south somalia has become a mess..like eh hmm well about 20 years ago maybe....juzme123 wrote:Since when is nairobi a Somali city?explain.
while you have been busy enlarging burco from tuulo to a city, the world has moved on....kenya's recent population found data has clearly recognised that somalis grew from mere 500.000 in the 80's to just below 7 million in 2010..thats an increase of 13000% or in numbers 14 times and those increases have been felt in every corner of that nation as far as in some isolated kikuyu villages is a somali selling baris basmaati in a corner....
beledweyne can easily be the most beautiful land locked city in somalia...i would love to have a house there its an absolute blessing...
as for your stories the city is not bigger then bosaso simply because large chunks of that cities land size is boosted by the way shabbelle plays with her..
but seriously look at that city the potential it has is just unimaginable.....
mog
harg
bos
gaal v baydh
in terms of potential
balcad
jamaame
jawhar
beledweyne
lovely places ..beautiful scenery ...a little house a little farm few camels few cows some goats a little wife plus another one aaaaaaaaaaah what am i doing here...goo shariif sort that place out mate, me need to come.....sorry fellow MJ's but life is in the south...you gotta be able to enjoy a scenery picture...i am going into a day dream mode for a little while
Re: Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Baydhabo or Burco
u see ur confusing with land mass (build up) or mass population (density)..
marka, burco is bigger than bossasso if w look at the density and mass population of the city. the same way goes for hargaysa vs. xamaar. by the way compare
gabiley with galgacyo and be ready to be surprise. density wise, somaliland has cities more populated than somalia (talking square-metre per habitant)

Re: Boosaaso, Galkacayo, Baydhabo or Burco
Yh because all the Somalis moved to Nairobi, everyone else moved out of Nairobi and no people other than Somalis moved into Nairobi.whitehartlane wrote:since south somalia has become a mess..like eh hmm well about 20 years ago maybe....juzme123 wrote:Since when is nairobi a Somali city?explain.

Yh I personally, have for the past 20 years been enlarging burco from a tuulo to a city ; it is my life's work!. Whilst you personally, have for the last 20 years been enlarging Garowe, from nothing to a town, North Galkacayo, from a tuulo to a half-city and also boosaaso into a city; it's your life's work!whitehartlane wrote:[while you have been busy enlarging burco from tuulo to a city

But on a serious note; you might be right about beledweyne being enlarged byt he river but it is not smaller than Boosaaso. Burco would definately challenge Galkacyo in size if you take into consideration the density of the two cities.

Finally a logical person who understands that you have to take into consideration both building desity and land area.
I wouldn't go as far as Gabiley v.s. Galkacayo but it does demonstrate a point.A city can sit on a large land area but be sparsely built up. Whereas another city can sit on a smaller land area but be densely built up. ]
