how do you know those guys in the black and white picture were educated or you are just making another assumption just like all Somalis?

in fact, Somalia never had an educated elite on its highest government offices. all we had were a punch of ignorant, greedy, selfish, corrupt thieves with no vision and respect for human life. just because we had a relative peace before the civil war doesn't mean our so-called leaders were highly educated or had a vision for Somalia. having a degree doesn't mean anything if you have no vision and your priority is to advance your tribe issue or to fill job openings, not with deserving, hardworking individuals, but with your relatives or tribe mates. it just doesn't work that way. there are many great leaders in the world with no advanced degrees. critical thinking, smartness and vision is what counts most. when america was founded, its leaders had vision---and that vision was america to be the most welcoming, the most powerful and a place where everyone would dream to come. they might not have been able to see it come true, but sure they got it right. that's what i called leaders.

i am not even worried about the past. we can't relive in the past. but what most disturbs me and makes me sick is what i read in social sites, such as this. the unrelenting focus on tribalism, the accusations and belittling about other tribes, bragging about one's tribe is only some of what i hear or read from social sites every day. but what's more disturbing is that those comments are not coming from old generation or from Somalia but from young people living in the west. omg!!! it is so disturbing!!! i could have never imagined young people in the west would still be so closely associated with tribe.

back to your point, if your assessment was true we wouldn't be living in misery now. Somalia, i am afraid, will remain in state of anarchy and destitute for as long as our qabiil comes before Islam and somalinimo.

ilaahow no gargaar. ameen.
