Te success of any somali region is overall beneficial to raising the standard of life for all the residents in Somaliweyn so i am all for that

The concern is Range activity in Puntland intends what is called Horizontal drilling in essence they will not even need to enter the area with oil deposit to extract the resource. They will simply drill underneath and pump the oil out.

Image
In 1990, Iraq accused Kuwait of stealing Iraq's oil through slant drilling.[ref needed] The United Nations redrew the border after the 1991 Gulf war that liberated Kuwait from a seven-month Iraqi occupation under former leader Saddam Hussein. It placed 11 oil wells, some farms and an old naval base that used to be in Iraq on the Kuwaiti side
The record horizontal drill stands at 10km from surface bore.

Lundin is now a major shareholder in Africa Oil, which bought an 80% interest in Range Resources' exploration project in Puntland, Somalia. Africa Oil has invested $20 million in the Puntland project, and will invest another $25 more over the next six months.

African Oil and Range Resources are too different companies, they are not related in their ownerhip structure. What you posted says that they own 80% of the project in Puntland and not 80% of Range Resources. Computershare Clearing owns about 68% of Range Resources the rest is owned by a long list of minority shareholders. I use a Bloomberg terminal at work, i check up this kind of stuff for fun sometimes.

I don't think this company is going to get anything out of its investment.
