After that, the president of Somalia congratulated Adem, wishing him success and hoped he would add something good to Somalia.
“I am very blessed with the acceptance of His Excellency, President Ahmed and we shall soon start of our mission in our embassy in Mogadishu” the ambassador said.
Adem will be the second ambassador from an eastern African nation to land in war-decimated Mogadishu in less than four months. In November, the credentials of Ambassador Dayib Dubad Robleh, Djibouti's new ambassador to Somalia, were accepted by the Somali president.
Adem, who was Ethiopia’s ambassador to Abidjan, will also be the second diplomat Ethiopia designated to Somalia since 1991 when the military dictator Mohammed Si’ad Barre was toppled.
Somali and Ethiopia have a long history of hostility, as the two nations fought in 1963 and 1977. Ethiopian forces routinely cross into Somalia; but this new diplomatic relationship could affect the frequency of those incursions.
